Even though the public release of iOS 18 is scheduled for fall 2024, Apple has already rolled out the developer builds of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18. And the best part? You don’t even have to be enrolled in the Apple Developer Program to install them.

Why You Should (and Shouldn’t) Install iOS 18 or iPadOS 18 Beta

iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 bring a ton of new features to your iPhone and iPad. For starters, you can customize your Home Screen with tinted app icons and place your apps wherever you like. As for privacy, iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 let you hide and lock app, while also including a dedicated Passwords app.

If you’ve been longing for some of these features, the developer beta builds of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 are definitely worth a try.

However, beta builds are far from perfect. You may encounter bugs and stability issues more frequently than you’d like. Plus, some apps may even fail to launch. Therefore, I don’t recommend installing iOS 18 or iPadOS 18 beta on your primary device. At the very least, you should wait for the public beta builds that Apple typically releases in July.
