Amazon is offering shoppers the option to request an invitation to buy high-demand products in low supply, starting with the PS5,which is in very short supply indeed.
According toTechCrunch, Amazon will vet invitation requests by evaluating your account’s previous purchase history and when your account was created. This is to ensure you are not a bot or a fake profile. Invites will be sent to genuine customers only.
Getting an invitation is not a guarantee that you will be able to buy the console since it depends on availability. It is highly likely that not all requests will be granted. However,the PS4 is getting old and won’t always be around, so there’s no harm in getting on the waiting list now for the PS5.
How the System Works
To request an invitation, head over to thePS5 product page. You will see theRequest Invitationbutton whereAdd to CartorBuy Nowbuttons would normally be. Once you click on the Request Invitation button, you will receive an email informing you that you have 72 hours to complete the purchase if you are successful.
The offer is open to all Amazon shoppers; it is free, and you don’t have to be a prime member either.
Amazon Hopes The System Will Defeat “Bad Actors”
Amazon has designed this system in order to defeat bad actors, or scalpers, who snap up high demand, low supply, products and then resell them at jerked up prices.
The system is currently available only in the US and only for the PS5. However, Amazon expects to roll it out to other products and countries in the near future, starting with the Xbox Series X.
