The answer to today’s Wordle is “LOUSE”.
The word “Louse” is primarily a noun, but can also be a verb. As a noun, it refers to small, parasitic insets that live on warm-blooded animals. There are sometimes outbreaks of head lice in schools. As a verb, it refers to the practice of removing these creatures from their host or environment, as in “lousing” or (more commonly) “delousing”.
According tothe Online Etymology Dictionary, the origin of “Louse” is the Old English word “lus”. The same basic word is found in Old Norse (as “lus”), Middle Dutch (as “luus”), and German (as “laus”). The alternative meaning of an obnoxious person dates from the 1630s.
