Summary

Ted Lassoco-creator Bill Lawrence addresses the lack of updates on a spinoff series. There has been a great deal of speculation about the Apple TV+ series expanding since season 3’s conclusion in 2023, including numerous stars expressing enthusiasm for continuing their roles. Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham) and Keeley Jones (Juno Temple) starting an AFC Richmond women’s team and a new era for the men’s team were both teased in the season 3 finale, potentially paving a path forTed Lassoseason 4or a spinoff series.

DuringScreen Rant’s interview with Lawrence for Apple TV+’s new seriesBad Monkey, he was asked about his knowledge or involvement with aTed Lassospinoff series, and whether there are any updates on the story growing further. He explains thatwhile he is intrigued by the idea of moreTed Lasso, the decision is not solely up to him. At the same time, he shares that he is open to seeing more of the show’s beloved characters. Check out Lawrence’s response below:

Shoresy (Jared Keeso) looking upset from Shoresy and Ted Lasso (Jason Sudeikis) looking happy and pointing in Ted Lasso

[Laughs] My policy on the Ted Lasso things, I always answer now as a fan—you know, I love the show so much, I think Jason [Sudeikis] and the gang are so talented at doing it, I’d kill to watch it again. But we never answer, even if we’ve heard stuff, every actor, every actress, every writer, every producer, we all know that this is such a big, major life decision for Jason that you will never hear from anybody until you hear from him. I’m only allowed to say things, like, about Scrubs reboots, in which case I go, ‘Yeah, maybe in like six months or so, we’ll figure it out.’ But Ted Lasso, man, I wait with bated breath to see whatever Jason feels like doing, just like everybody else.

Ted Lasso Completed The Story Jason Sudeikis Wanted To Tell

The desire for moreTed Lassois understandable given its widespread popularity, the season 3 finale’s teases, and Apple TV+’s reluctance to close the door on the series. Nevertheless,Ted Lassois over in the sense of season 3 completing the story Sudeikis intended to tell.Ted’s arc felt complete, making his bittersweet decision to leaveAFC Richmondand return home to his family in the United States feel earned after years of rich character development.

The uncertainty about whether the story will continue is somewhat frustrating, but is more indicative of Apple TV+ not wanting to put a definitive end to one of their top-performing series than of the writing.

The arcs for Rebecca, Keeley, Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein), Jamie Tartt (Phil Dunster), and Nathan Shelley (Nick Mohammed) also came to mostly satisfying conclusions. As tantalizing as a spinoff or multiple spinoffs continuing to follow these characters would be,these stories could potentially undermine the journeys Sudeikis, Lawrence, and the rest of their creative team carefully builtover the course of several years. The stories of Ted and his found family may not need to continue further.

Ted Lasso Replacement Show With 100% RT Score Perfectly Updates Paul Newman’s 47-Year-Old Sports Cult Classic

With 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, Shoresy is more than just a great Ted Lasso replacement, especially where one 47-year-old sports comedy is concerned.

TheTed Lassoseason 3 endingworks as a series finale as it brings the story full-circle in many ways and serves to culminate the characters' individual journeys alongside the overall journey of the AFC Richmond team. The uncertainty about whether the story will continue is somewhat frustrating, but is more indicative ofApple TV+ not wanting to put a definitive end to one of their top-performing seriesthan of the writing. Without Sudeikis' involvement, aTed Lassospinoff will likely not happen.
