Warning! This article contains spoilers for The Acolyte season 1.
Summary
The Acolyteseason 1 is over, with one death in the finale resulting in a funeral, an honor Jecki Lon and Yord Fandar did not receive. Shockingly, theJedi massacre ofThe Acolyteepisode 5saw the end of the road for two of the show’s major characters. Despite Dafne Keen and Charlie Barnett being positioned as two of the main actors inThe Acolyte’s ensemble cast, their characters were unceremoniously killed by Manny Jacinto’s Qimir/The Stranger.
By the time ofThe Acolyteepisode 8’s ending, Jecki and Yord’s deaths were not the only shocking moments of the show. The flashbacks to the events on Brendok inThe Acolyteepisode 7 detailed what really happened to the witch coven led by Aniseya and Koril, with these moments containing several surprising deaths too. However, one of the show’s more tragic deaths was found inThe Acolyteepisode 8’s climactic story. Interestingly, this death resulted in a funeral of sorts, leading many to wonder why Yord and Jecki did not receive such a service.

Will The Acolyte season 2 happen, and if it does then what’s next for this ultimate Star Wars prequel? Here’s everything we know to date!
Master Sol’s Funeral Is Really About Destroying Evidence
Sol’s Service Was Less About Honor And More About A Jedi Cover-Up
The death in question belonged to Lee Jung-jae’s Master Sol. Sol was killed by Osha inThe Acolyteepisode 8 after the latter found out that the former killed her mother 16 years ago. After being found by other Jedi including Vernestra Rwoh, Sol’s body is shown burning on a floating funeral pyre on one of Brendok’s lakes, seemingly giving the Jedi a fitting send-off as he becomes one with the Force. While Vernestra Rwoh was shown to care for Sol as a friend and colleague, the funeral for him holds a deeper, somewhat darker meaning.
Sol’s body was burned both as a way to honor his sacrifice and to cover up evidence that supports Vernestra’s claims…

Vern is likely using the funeral to honor Sol, but it also serves as a way to destroy evidence. The deaths of Indara, Torbin, and Kelnacca were pinned on Sol rather than Mae. Vernestra framed Sol as a broken, damaged Jedi who went rogue to cover up his guilt for what happened on Brendok. This was so the Senate would not know of the deeper corruption at the heart of the Jedi Order. If what really happened on Brendok got out, the Senate would know the wider Jedi Order was capable of making mistakes that lead to death and destruction.
In framing Sol for the murders and positioning his death as a suicide, the broader misgivings of the Jedi Order are covered up. However, if Sol’s body was found by anyone else, it would likely become clear that he was killed by Osha. A Jedi with psychometry, the ability to see events from the past play out due to echoes in the Force, would uncover this. As such, Sol’s body was burned both as a way to honor his sacrifice and to cover up evidence that supports Vernestra’s claims.

Hopefully, The Acolyte’s Other Jedi Were Honored Offscreen
Jecki & Yord Deserved Funerals Of Their Own
Given how integral Sol’s death was to the aftermath ofThe Acolyteepisode 8, it makes sense why his funeral was shown. Concerning Yord and Jecki, it can only be hoped that they received equal honors off-screen. One ofThe Acolyte’s narrative problemsstemmed from shorter episodes and a small eight-episode season. As such, several plot points that could have fleshed out the show’s characters were skipped over.
Potential funerals for Yord and Jecki count among these skipped moments. It is likely that the duo, and the otherJedi deaths inThe Acolyteepisode 5, were taken back to Coruscant and received their own funerals. Hopefully, these events actually took place despite not being shown. If one thing is clear after their heroic sacrifices inThe Acolyte, Jecki and Yord deserved to be honored among Master Sol, Master Indara, Master Torbin, and Master Kelnacca.
