When will your phone get the Android 13 update?

It sure feels likeAndroid 13is getting long in the tooth, given that theAndroid 14preview program is underway. Even though Google Pixel phones and all the latest andgreatest Samsung phonesare at the forefront of receiving new system updates, it doesn’t mean that’s the case for all smartphones. Many phones are still waiting for their Android 13 update. Read on for a full overview of when and if you may expect an update for your favorite smartphone in the U.S.

Google shot the starting pistol on Android 13’s rollout in mid-August, with stable builds now available for supported Pixel devices. The company has also updated the Android Open Source Project with the new version. Other Android manufacturers will be responsible for adapting the latest software to their devices. That process will take some time, but a few plucky OEMs have been making their speedy efforts known. We’ll update this article with pertinent information periodically.

In the lists below, we marked phones that received the update in bold, making it easier to spot those still waiting on their releases.

The Taiwanese tech brand offers beta programs for eager testers to try out new Android versions, but it hasn’t been too quick topush them through to the rest of the user base. After an extensive beta-testing period, the company has finally pushed out stable Android 13 to theAsus Zenfone 9. It wasn’t until later that other phones from the company joined the club.

Google releasedAndroid 13 to its Pixel phonesand the Android Open Source Project repository on August 15. And as goes Google, so should the other OEMs. The update will be the last for the Pixel 4 and 4 XL. Those phones are only guaranteed to get updates until October 2022, with that month’s security patch being the last safe update for the devices.

The latest Pixel phones, theGoogle Pixel 7and theGoogle Pixel 7 Pro, come with Android 13. You can grab the factory image for your device from theGoogle Play services factory images pageand the OTA image from theGoogle Play services full OTA images page.

Once a Google property, the Lenovo-owned manufacturer has fallen from grace in the software department.It’ll generally stick with two OS updates and two years of security patches for flagships, and possibly one OS bump for other devices.

Motorola’sU.K. customer service portallists devices that will get the Android 13 update. At the same time, its U.S. customer service portal remains stuck onAndroid 12 updates.

Nokia (HMD Global)

This is another fallen star in terms of Android updates. In late memory, it’s had to delay Android 10 and 11 rollouts for certain devices. For Android 12, only one device on record was promised an OTA. Things are looking a bit better for Android 13, though, with the company promising to bring it to a few phones:

OnePlus (Global)

Oppo-owned OnePlus has been slowing down in terms of rushing Android pulses to its phones.Part of it is a function of the recent codebase merger between OxygenOS and ColorOS. Supposedly, things should be more efficient when the developer teams settle in. We’re crossing our fingers.

The company released its first stable release of OxygenOS 13 for theOnePlus 10 Proon September 21 and managed to get all of its flagship phones on Android 13 before 2022 ended. We have the official list of devices below.

Nord series

The world’s largest Android phone maker has stepped up its software update commitments over the past few years. More devices are getting more OS updates and more security updates for longer. The company’s planningfour OS updates and five years of security patches for its 2022 releases.

Android 13 is paired withOne UI 5.0on Galaxy devices.Open beta programshave come and gone, and most supported Samsung devices are on the latest version. The company updated most of its phones before 2023 rolled around, which is impressive.

It may be time to update

Google did not reinvent the wheel with the Pixel 7, but there was no need to. With improved cameras, the next-gen Tensor G2 chipset, and Google’s wonderfully feature-filled software, the Pixel 7 earns its price tag again this year.
