Established social media websites like X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook are constantly changing. When those websites change beyond what users want, competitors like Tribel arrive to offer an alternative. So what is Tribel and is it actually worth using?
What Is Tribel?
The Tribel social media platform seeks to provide users with a positive, enriching space to connect over common interests without hateful comments. The app quickly gained users in November 2022, just one month afterElon Musk acquired Twitter.
Tribel was created by Rafael and Omar Rivero, a pair of digital entrepreneurs previously responsible for creating the Occupy Democrats movement. Prior to creating Tribel, Omar and Rafael Rivero attempted to create a separate social media platform called Liker. Following a data breach in March 2021 (as recorded byHaveIBeenPwned), Liker went offline. Tribel was eventually released as Liker’s successor.
Tribel is more successful than its predecessor. In an email to MakeUseOf, Tribel confirmed that the platform will soon reach one million users. Beyond that, Tribel boasts over 100,000 downloads on Google Play.
According to theTribel WeFunder page, the platform is meant to connect people with similar interests while minimizing issues like negativity and harassment.

What Social Media Platforms Is Tribel Similar To?
As you refine your selected categories, follow interesting users, and add friends to your account, Tribel gradually adjusts to these interests.
Tribel blends familiar features from Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Much like on Facebook, you can add friends and share photos and text posts privately on your wall.
If you prefer a Twitter-like experience, you can make your posts public, contribute to categories such as cryptocurrency, and gain followers by becoming a top contributor. Contributors are categorized, making it quite simple to become prolific in categories like volunteering.
Tribel’s public feed is also similar to X, with one feed being solely dedicated to breaking news posts. Like on Instagram, you can also create stories and share them with your friends and followers.
The tone of the platform is distinct from X and Instagram, however. Tribel isn’t as lively as X, and its Breaking tab demonstrates a focus on political posts rather than a broad spectrum of breaking news.
The platform is actually most similar to Facebook. The posts in the Trending feed resemble the viral videos common on Facebook, as do the memes and discussion posts on the Breaking feed.

How Does the Tribel Social Media Platform Work?
Thanks to its similarities to other social media platforms, Tribel is easy to use. It’s surprisingly simple, forgoing features like post recommendations in favor of two chronological feeds and two trending feeds.

You won’t see any posts on yourFriendsorFollowingfeed when you first create your Tribel account. Instead, you’ll need to find people by browsing theBreakingandTrendingfeeds or by searching for topics you’re interested in.
TheTrendingtab is ideal for most new users, since it’s interspersed with broadly appealing content like cute pet pictures and inspiring videos. If you enjoy a particular user’s posts, you may follow them or add them as a friend by clicking on their icon and sending a request.
If you want to find your friends and family, you can find them by giving Tribel permission to access your contacts. It’s advisable to make your profile recognizable so that your contacts will know who sent them a friend request, however.
How to Manage Your Tribel Account Settings
The most useful section on the bottom bar is theMenu. Whether you want to become an influencer or maintain your privacy, configuring your account is important if you want to have the best experience using Tribel.
