Summary
Transformers Onewill be a very differentTransformersmovie than audiences have seen before, and this includes doing something that has never been done in previous installments. The 2024 animatedTransformersmovie goes back to the origins ofOrion Pax a.k.a. Optimus Prime, with Chris Hemsworth voicing the future legendary Autobot. The prequel comes after seven live-action films in the franchise and 38 years afterTransformers: The Moviebrought the Hasbro creations to life on the big screen in animation. Over that time, there have become several familiar and common elements thateveryTransformersmoviehas.
Paramount’s hope withTransformers Oneis to give audiences something they’ve never seen before within theTransformersuniverse. The war between the Autobots and Decepticons is not yet in full force, with Optimus Prime and Megatron even being best friends during this time. However, the animated feature still holds true to many of the foundational parts of the property. There are plenty ofAutobots and Decepticons inTransformers One, a typical mixture of action and comedy, and the usual leads around Optimus, like Bumblebee. And yet, one of the more noticeable differences is a franchise first.

Megatron And Optimus Prime Used To Be Friends? Why The Classic Transformers Villain Turned Evil
The Transformers One trailer reveals that Optimus Prime and Megatron were once friends, raising questions about what ultimately tore them apart.
Transformers One Is The Franchise’s First Movie Not Set On Earth
It’s Entirely On Cybertron
A major difference betweenTransformers Oneand every otherTransformersmovie that has ever been made is that the 2024 movie is not set on Earth. The animated feature is set exclusively on Cybertron instead. There is some irony in this decision considering howsimilarTransformers One’s Cybertron is to Earthin a few ways. Despite what Cybertron and Earth might have in common, the fact remains thateveryTransformersmovie has had Earth as its primary setting.Transformers Onewill change that and break the franchise trend.
The prominence of Earth in previousTransformersmovies has been quite substantial.Transformers: The Movieincluded sequences on Cybertron, but Earth was its main location. Humanity’s planet then served as the primary setting for each of the live-action films that followed.Bumblebee’s opening on Cybertron provided a brief break from Earth, as didTransformers: Rise of the Beastsvisiting the Maximals' planet. But in each instance, the movies have always relied on a story set on Earth. That will be different now, withTransformers Onenot having human characterseither.

Transformers One Leaving Earth Can Help Make Transformers Feel Fresh Again
There Are Greater Opportunities For New Ideas
The decision to leave Earth out ofTransformers Oneshould prove to be an excellent one for the franchise. After eight films overall, it is easy for audiences to feel like they’ve seen everything a franchise has to offer. That’s potentially even a reason why the long-awaitedTransformersandG.I. Joecrossover is finally in motion. But instead of just making a new animatedTransformersmovie aimed at kids that also has an Earth setting, human characters, and the same group of Autobots,Transformers Onesmartly chose to break away from the mold.
This increases the chances ofTransformers Onefeeling like a fresh entry in a long-running series. New locations, different characters, and fresh storylines are all inherent to the prequel’s Cybertron setting. Having the film take place on Earth like every past installment could have hurt the film creatively. Now,Transformers Onehas the opportunity to include many new and fresh ideas by leaving Earth in the franchise’s past.
