Void Intercept battles inThe First Descendantfeature much stronger bosses than you beat during the game’s main story, including a fearsome foe named The Obstructor. This enemy has powerful defenses and unique attacking abilities that make them one of the most challenging opponents your squad can face. Unless you exploit certain weaknesses, The Obstructor can easily eliminate those who are unprepared.

The Obstructor is a boss from the Hard mode of Void Intercept fights, which can only be unlocked once you finish the"Colossi from Another Dimension"quest. After the main story concludes, you can talk to the NPC Seneca in Ablion to initiate Intercept battles. These combat scenarios are the apex of the game’s combat, testing everything you’ve learned about making strong builds forcharacters inThe First Descendant.

The Obstructor isLevel 122, the third-highest level of any boss you face in the game among the other Void Intercept fights you can unlock.

When The First Descendant’s New Descendants Will Be Playable

The First Descendant is getting its first new characters soon, and an official date has finally been revealed without a big announcement to herald it.

The Obstructor’s Strengths & Weaknesses

Recognize Which Elements Are The Most Useful

You need to learn The Obstructor’s core weaknesses and strengths to form an effective plan against them, such as which elements the boss specializes in.The Obstructor’s Attack Attribute is Toxic, meaning that nearly all the creature’s attacks deal that type of elemental damage. You’ll want towear equipment with Toxin Resistanceto reduce the overall damage this boss can produce against your character.

You are recommended to have at least 8,000 Toxin Resistance against The Obstructor through the description of the boss to have the best protection against its variety of different attacks.

The Obstructor is weak to Electric damage, creating a vulnerability you’re able to exploit with certain builds. Characters likeBunny inThe First Descendantare perfect choices against The Obstructor since most of her abilities are tied to the Electric element. Even if you aren’t using a character that specializes in Electric damage, you can add this element to builds you already have with specific upgrade Modules.

The other type of damage The Obstructor is weak to is Crush, which is mainly applied to the creature’s weak points. Most characters have some way of inflicting Crush damage with basic weapons and abilities, but you can always adjust your build to bolster skills tied to this damage type. Crush is technically a Non-Attribute you can see indicated on your weapon by a rectangular symbol that is different from the Pierce or Burst icons.

All Playable The First Descendant Characters & Exclusive Equipment & Abilities

The First Descendant introduces players to a unique roster of playable Descendants that fill the power fantasy urge many will be looking for.

Fire Attribute attacks do normal damageagainst The Obstructor, butthe boss has strong resistance to the Chill Attribute and a very strong resistance to the Toxic Attribute. The latter is to be expected due to the creature’s offensive affinity, but Chill may be unexpected. Electric Attribute attacks should always be your priority alongside Crush, so don’t bother trying to spec into a Fire build for this fight.

General Strategies Against The Obstructor

Bring Teammates And Understand Weak Points

Like many other bosses, such asThe Hanged Man inThe First Descendant, The Obstructor has several weak points on its body. You can shoot todestroy parts of the bossordeal extra damage by targeting vulnerable spotswith various weapons. As you can see in the above video by YouTube creatorPupsker, the fastest way to drain the boss' defenses is to shoot weak points constantly.

Once you destroy a part of The Obstructor’s body, the Shoulder and Core areas can be removed entirely by using your Grappling Hook. Doing this will stun the boss briefly, giving you a great opportunity to deal meaningful damage.

Youcan take out The Obstructor’s Sensor, Core Cover, and Balancer parts, shown with an image of the boss on the screen where you can start the Void Intercept fight. Remember thatthe fight against the Obstructor has two phases, one where the boss fights normally and another where it is frenzied. When in this frenzied state, the only destructible part of the creature is the Void Amplifier on its back.

Do not forget thatyou can challenge The Obstructor with three friendsinThe First Descendant’s multiplayer mode. Having three allies by your side will make this fight much easier since you can each target a weak point simultaneously. Do not waste chances to team up with other characters with builds designed to target The Obstructor’s weaknesses consistently throughout the boss fight.

How To Defeat The Obstructor

Know When Phases Shift And Keep Allies Mobile

The Obstructor willbecome immune whenever it changes form, which you can recognize as a second phase in the battle. This creature will shift between its first-phase form and the invulnerable second form multiple times during the battle, so your team needs to recognize the visual changes that represent this shift. When The Obstructor is in its alternate form, youhave to target its Plasma Amplifierto end this phase.

Recognizing the basic attack patterns of the boss will help you adjust to different situations the creature creates. Here is a list of all the possible moves your team could encounter in each of The Obstructor’s phases:

Laser Projectiles

The Obstructor fires a basic laser projectile toward a character.

Dodge to one side or hide behind the pillars in the boss arena to avoid the projectiles.

Green Energy Beams

Charging their lasers, The Obstructor will fire a prolonged beam of green energy in a line to damage any character that touches it.

Hide behind pillars or run to one side. Keep in mind that pillars will disappear after taking a certain amount of damage.

Kingfisher Summon

The Obstructor summons Kingfisher basic enemies around the arena to give itself allies during the fight.

Kill the Kingfishers fast to gain some HP and ammunition as loot from their bodies.

Poison Swamps

Stopping for a moment, The Obstructor will create large green orbs of poison that fall and explode onto the ground, creating large AoE zones that deal constant Toxic damage.

attempt to avoid each puddle by using your Grappling Hook to travel to unaffected places in the arena.

Cube Prisons

The Obstructor will sometimes trap one character in a violet cube, preventing them from moving.

Focus all your efforts on destroying the cube and freeing your ally, as they will take continuous damage and die if they remain in the cube prison.

How To Counter

Portal Insta-Kill

The Obstructor summons many portals around the arena, which produce orbs that are absorbed by the boss. If The Obstructor absorbs a certain number of orbs, it will kill every character and end the boss fight instantly.

Shoot orbs and destroy them before they reach the boss. This will prevent it from reaching the number it needs, but keep in mind you need to destroy its Plasma Amplifier to end this phase.

The instant kill that can be done in the second phase may cause your team to get wiped out multiple times even if you have a good run. With enough patience, you can eventually target The Obstructor’s vulnerabilities enough to beat one of the endgame bosses inThe First Descendant.
