Summary

Nexon’s free-to-play shooter,The First Descendant, launched earlier this month and sees players fighting an advanced alien faction in a bid to ensure humanity’s survival. As is the case with many free-to-play titles, there are several currencies within the game, each with a particular purpose, such as unlocking characters and cosmetics or upgrading Modules and Descendants.

There are five currencies inThe First Descendantcurrently, with some that can be unlocked through tactics and farming in-game and others that are purchased with real-world money through the game’s store or as part of a Premium Battle Pass. A breakdown of each currency is as follows:

Players should ensure they are spending all available Bonus Coins, as they will become useless once the Battle Pass that they came with expires.

Kuiper Shards are a vital resource in The First Descendant and by completing fast missions and dismantling duplicate modules, you’re able to farm them.

There Could Have Been Another Currency In The First Descendant

Some of these currencies - while expected in a free-to-play game - have proven to be controversial due to how much they cost and the fact thatsome items don’t appear the same in the gameas they do in the customization window, resulting in players spending real money on items they don’t want. However, there could have been another currency that would have been even more problematic: Compasses.

As spotted by RedditorKammakazi,Compasses would have been obtained through playing Consecutive Defense and Consecutive Survival missions, and would have been used to start Void Intercept Battles. These battles see players facing different Colossus bosses and reward players with the Amorphous Materials needed for crafting powerful items.

The response to Kammakazi’s post was in agreement that Nexon made the right call in cutting this currency requirement, as many aren’t fans of the defense missions, stating that they slow down the game too much and for minimal rewards, usually just Gold, which is the most common currency in the game anyway. It’s likely that this is because Defense missions were supposed to pay out Compasses as well to give more incentive to players, but currently, the only requirements needed to unlock Void Intercept Battles are that players must simply progress throughThe First Descendant’s main story and complete certain quests, which is a far better option.
