What Happened in The Elusive Samurai Episode #6?
Genba Pulls Off Incredible Gambit; Squanders All Goodwill the Next Day
Following the events ofThe Elusive Samuraiepisode #5, Tokiyuki and Genba seize the imperial order to capture Suwa Grand Shrine but are detected by Sukefusa, an eerily talented tracker. Sukefusa nearly captures the intruders, coming close to laying a deathblow on Genba,only for Tokiyuki to stop the attack while sustaining a mild injury.The two continue their escape plan, but Sadamune joins the pursuit, aided by Sukefusa’s honed senses for an incredibly deadly sniper duo.
However, Genba pulls back for a daring gambit where he successfully disarms Sadamune, cuts off aid from his troops, and reveals thatthe storeroom and surrounding area of Sadamune’s base is set ablazewithThe Elusive Samurai’stypical excellent visuals. In the chaos, Sadamune regains his senses and discovers Genba has vanished, with them thoroughly unable to track their prey. In a real sense, Tokiyuki’s infiltration with this untested shinobi was a resounding success, a victory for the Suwa Grand Shrine, who live another day without Sadamune’s scrutiny.
The Elusive Warriors celebrate their victory at the shrine, with Yorishige proudly tending to Tokiyuki’s wounds. The young prince’s choice to take the hit for Genba demonstrates how records showed he never did the same to others despite being betrayed by so many people surrounding him. However, this principle doesn’t hold for everyone, with Genba’s celebration quickly going drunkenly awry. The final moments of the episode shift to a brutal consolidation of power for Takauji, who faces off against Shogun Moriyoshi Shinno, Go-Daigo’s son,quickly shifting the emperor’s favor toward him.

A New Recruit Is Vetted for the Elusive Warriors
In the release ofThe Elusive Samuraiepisode #7, with the Imperial Court granting Sadamune land on either side of Suwa, Tokiyuki must go north to investigate suspicious activity on the border from Sadamune’s forces.This will introduce an exceptional swordsman and prospective recruit to Tokiyuki’s forces, Fubuki, whose enormous appetite and quirks belie a more complicated past than the prince’s other retainers. However, while Tokiyuki meets new allies, Sadamune recruits other unseemly elements to his cause.
Soon, viewers will be introduced to Hirano Shingen, or “Shokan,” a ruthless bandit leader with heinous, inhumane tactics, as a show of Sadamune’s growing desperation. The burning question viewers may have is why he’s completely covered with ants, but his vicious massacres of innocent villagers will make him an especially despicable recurring opponent.
