TheDeath Starhas a reputation as the most powerful superweapon inStar Warshistory, as it can obliterate an entire world in a single blast. In fact, the only weapon that’s more powerful isStarkiller Base from the sequel trilogy, as it can destroy multiple planets with one shot. However, neither the Death Star nor Starkiller Base are theultimate weapons inStar Wars. Sure, they’re powerful and deadly, butStar Warshas proven time and again that there are things far worse than death, and one weapon in particular delivers just that.
InDarth Vader#22 by Charles Soule and Giuseppe Camuncoli,Darth Vader is working on building his fortress on Mustafar, and he isn’t doing it alone. Vader was in possession of a Sith mask that contained the essence of Darth Momin. Momin was an ancient Sith who was decidedly different from other famousSith Lords inStar Wars. Momin wasn’t interested in galactic conquest, gaining vast amounts of power, or even killing his enemies. Momin was only interested in one thing: making art.

Darth Momin started off mutilating small animals before moving on to creating giant sculptures of amalgamated corpses, and he was imprisoned for committing such atrocities for seemingly no reason. However, Momin’s cruelty for its own sake caught the attention of another Sith, who freed him from prison and made him their apprentice. Before long, Momin killed his master and began forging a superweapon. Momin’s weapon was a ship capable of destroying an entire city in an instant. While nowhere near as deadly as the Death Star, Momin wasn’t going to be using this weapon for destruction alone.
Darth Momin had no interest in simply killing all the residents of a random city. His superweapon was merely meant to inspire fear in those that saw it, at which point Darth Momin planned to use the dark side of the Force to trap this city in a temporal prison, frozen in time at the moment right before their utter obliteration. These people would be forever trapped in a perpetual state of utter terror, gazing upon their impending deaths forever. This would be a monument to the dark side, and Darth Momin’s masterpiece.

Darth Momin’s ‘Death Star’ is Far More Cruel than the Iconic Superweapon
Darth Momin’s Weapon Wouldn’t Kill its Victims, but Torture Them Forever
It cannot be denied that the scale of Darth Momin’s superweapon is nothing compared to the Death Star, as it can only impact a single city as opposed to an entire planet. However, the level of cruelty of Darth Momin’s weapon far exceeds that of the Death Star. While horrific, the Death Star at least offers instant death to those it’s used against.Star Wars: A New Hopegave fans a perfect exhibition of this, as Alderaan was utterly obliterated in a second. A whole planet, gone in an instant, along with the billions of people who lived there.
Sure, that’s horrific, but it simply doesn’t compare to Darth Momin’s weapon. The residents of the city he planned to use this weapon against wouldn’t technically be killed - quite the opposite, in fact. Darth Momin offered them eternal life, existing forever in a moment of unimaginable terror, frozen in time. And arguably the worst part is that Darth Momin only created this weapon to pay tribute to the dark side of the Force, making these people’s suffering amount to nothing more than a sick offering to evil itself.

Darth Momin’s Superweapon is Similar to Another Sith Weapon: The Fermata Cage
The Fermata Cage also Traps its Victims in Suspended Animation for All Eternity
The main aspect of Darth Momin’s weapon is the temporal bubble he’d create through the dark side of the Force that would trap his victims in a state of suspended animation the moment before their obliteration, forcing them to exist in unimaginable terror forever. Interestingly enough, that’s incredibly similar to another Sith weapon that was also introduced in the canonStar Warscomics: the Fermata Cage.
The Fermata Cage is a temporal prison that was crafted by the ancient Sithto hold enemies that either couldn’t be killed, or were too dangerous to challenge in battle. For instance, one entity that was trapped in the Fermata Cage by the ancient Sith was an AI hivemind called the Scourge, which - when it was released - nearly took over the galaxy by infecting droids and cyborgs and adding them to its hivemind network.Star Wars: Dark Droidstells the Scourge’s story, and it’s clear to see why even the Sith feared this enemy.

Emperor Palpatine’s Legends Death Gave Order 66 Victims the Perfect Revenge
Emperor Palpatine dies in both Star Wars Legends and canon, but the Legends version is better, as it gives Order 66 victims the perfect revenge.
It’s interesting that temporal bubbles capable of freezing victims in time is something that the Sith can do - even a single Sith. Momin was going to do this to an entire city solo, and only failed when Jedi boarded his superweapon and broke his concentration. If not for the Jedi, the residents of that city would still be trapped in a state of eternal horror, all because of the Sith’s established ability to freeze people in time. While this should be explored in greater detail, the moments fans have seen it have been incredible - and, in Momin’s case, utterly horrific.

Darth Momin’s Superweapon is Far From the Only Horrifying Sith Weapon
The Star Forge, Thought Bomb, & the Malachor Superweapon, Just to Name a Few
While Darth Momin’s superweapon was truly horrifying, as it delivered something far worse than death to its victims, it’s far from the only horrific weapon developed by the Sith throughoutStar Warshistory. For instance, in the distant past of 30,000 BBY, there was a weapon called the Star Forge which drew power from nearby stars and was also powered by the Force, and ultimately became corrupted by the dark side. Darth Malak attempted to use this world-killer to destroy the Old Republic, and if not for Darth Revan joining forces with the Jedi, Malak may have succeeded.
The Thought Bomb is also a hellish weapon used by the Sith, and it also stands out, as it requires no technology. A Thought Bomb is a bubble of pure Force energy that multiple Sith have to pour the dark side into. When the Thought Bomb is ‘activated’, it eradicates every Force-sensitive lifeform in its vicinity. It was developed to destroy the Jedi forces, as Darth Bane led his fellow Sith to believe it could win them the war against the Jedi. However, when it was used, Jedi and Sith alike were eradicated, leaving only Darth Bane and his apprentice alive.

After the Thought Bomb was used in 1032 BBY, Darth Bane established the Sith Rule of Two.
Another Sith weapon was the Malachor Superweapon that fans saw for the first time inStar Wars Rebels. This weapon was capable of planetary destruction, and could only be activated by a Sith holocron. It was originally created by Darth Tanis in 3966 BBY, and would lie dormant for thousands of years until the former Sith Lord, Darth Maul, used Ezra Bridger to activate it once more (though the weapon was ultimately shut down again by the combined forces of the Ghost crew and Ahsoka Tano).

Star Wars Unlocked Darth Vader’s Maximum Power in 2024, Turning Him into a Living Superweapon
Darth Vader is an immensely powerful Force-user in Star Wars, but he’s never been stronger than he was in 2024, as he became a living superweapon.
These only scratch the surface of the horrific superweapons the Sith have developed, and each one offers its own level of pain and death. Even the most famous among them, the Death Star, cannot be ignored, as it is truly a pillar of evil in the galaxy, and would have meant the continued reign of the Sith-ruled Empire. However, while some fans might think theDeath Staris the ultimateStar Warsweapon, it’s clear to see that Darth Momin’s superweapon is by far the most horrific, as it proves true that there are things far worse than death.
