Summary
ManyThe Bearseason 3 plot developments have convinced me that the FX show will end with one tragic twist. Like its predecessors,The Bearseason 3 creates the perfect balance of highs and lows. While the opening sequence, which walks through Carmy’s past in Chef Terry’s kitchen, left me smiling, theshutdown of Chef Terry’s restaurantmade me feel a sense of despair. Similarly, Carmy and Richie’s fight made me increasingly concerned about their relationship’s future, but Richie’s reunion with Ever’s restaurant’s staff left me feeling uplifted.
In all these ebbs and flows in its narrative,The Bearseason 3 walks through some surprising story progressions, many of which left me wondering how the show will eventually end. The more I thought about these sudden changes inThe Bearseason 3’s story, the more I was worried about Carmy, Sydney, and their restaurant’s fate. WhenThe Bearseason 3’s endingcredits started rolling, I was almost convinced the series would conclude with an inevitable tragedy.

The Bear Timeline: All Flashbacks In Order & How Much Time Passes In Each Season
The Bear’s flashbacks can sometimes make the show’s timeline difficult to decipher, but certain scenes from all 3 seasons clear things up.
The Bear Restaurant May Not Survive After Season 3’s Ending
The Bear Season 3 Sets Up The Central Restaurant’s Downfall
After being distracted almost throughoutThe Bearseason 2’s runtime, Carmy finally puts his head down in season 3 and doubles down on his efforts to make his restaurant successful. However, to everyone’s dismay, he becomes a little too ambitious, which puts immense pressure on everyone else. As seen inThe Bearseason 3, he introduces a list of non-negotiables, including a bizarre set of rules like changing the menu every day and not repeating ingredients. While it is understandable what Carmy intends to achieve with these, his plans do more harm than good.
By the time season 3 nears its conclusion, almost everything seemingly starts to fall apart for Carmy’s restaurant.

AsThe Bearseason 3 progresses, Sydney wonders if working at the restaurant is worth it anymore and even considers taking up a job opportunity Adam offers. Meanwhile,The Bear restaurantstruggles to make profits because of its high production costs, leaving Uncle Jimmy worried if it will stay afloat. By the time season 3 nears its conclusion, almost everything seemingly starts to fall apart for Carmy’s restaurant.
Jimmy seems to be on the verge of backing off as its investor. Syd seems convinced she will leave The Bear.Carmy’s ambitions remain unchecked, hinting at how he will further spiral down in season 4. With so many unfavorable developments, I find it hard to believe that The Bear restaurant will survive till the end of the series.

The Restaurant’s Shutdown Could Benefit Sydney & Carmy
Sydney Would Finally Be Able To Move On
As tragic as the central restaurant’s shutdown may seem, it might benefit some characters in more ways than one. Sydney feels stuck in The Bear because she helped Carmy and others build it from the ground up. She struggles to quit inThe Bearseason 3 because she has grown attached to everyone she has worked with in the restaurant’s kitchen. However, if The Bear eventually drowns,it will be easier for her to move on to other opportunities.
Since the culinary industry has been the primary source of pain and agony for manyThe Bearcharacters, the central restaurant’s collapse might offer them a semblance of liberation.
The Bearseason 3 highlights how the culinary industry is the overarching villain that looms over every character associated with it. Donna’s mental health conditions can be attributed to her past struggles with working at The Original Beef of Chicagoland. Carmy’s father also fled after being overwhelmed by the restaurant’s growing expenses. Mikey felt crushed under the responsibilities of running his family’s failing business. As seen inThe Bearseason 3, Carmy is also still traumatized by his experiences of working under toxic chefs like David in the culinary world.
After Chef Terry’s Ever restaurant’s shutdown,The Bearseason 3 also briefly features snippets of news articles that reveal fine dining is on the decline after the pandemic. Since the culinary industry has been the primary source of pain and agony for manyThe Bearcharacters, the central restaurant’s collapse might offer them a semblance of liberation. Carmy will be shattered by the restaurant’s failure, but it will at least break the cycles of generational trauma running in the Berzatto family.
One Character Will Take The Hardest Hit If The Bear Gets Shutdown
Tina Would Feel Lost Without Her Job At The Bear
Most characters will likely benefit from The Bear’s shutdown, but Tina will take the hardest hit because she may have nowhere else to go. As herbackstory inThe Bearseason 3 suggests, she was struggling to compete with younger job-seekers and finding it incredibly hard to land a job. After she accidentally ended up in The Beef restaurant and opened up to Mikey about her issues, he gave her the opportunity to work with him. If The Bear does not make it,I am afraid Tina’s biggest fear will materialize: She will find herself competing against youngsters in the job market again.
However, with that said, Tina has garnered some incredible skills as a chef with Sydney as her mentor. This will likely make it easier for her to find a job in another fine-dining restaurant after The Bear. Since I, too, have grown attached toThe Bear’s central characters and their restaurant, I would never want the series to end with such a bleak outcome. But I cannot deny that a bittersweet ending, whereThe Bear’s characters find their own paths to success, fulfillment, and redemption, would perfectly align with the show’s themes of grief and personal growth.
