Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for The Acolyte episode 7.

Summary

Now thatThe Acolyteepisode 7 has been released, viewers have been left with more questions than answers. Being another flashback episode, “Choice” clears up a few questions surroundingOsha and MaeAniseya’s childhood on the planetBrendokand the Jedi’s involvement in taking Osha away. Not only was it revealed that Mae didn’t intentionally start the fire and was thus framed by the Jedi, but it was also shown thatSol (Lee Jung-jae)’s personal attachment to the girls, most notably Osha, did irreparable harm to Mae.

It was Sol who killed Mother Aniseya (Jodie Turner-Smith), and it was Sol who allowed Mae to fall. But with the real past now laid bare, many more questions have been raised and even more from past episodes are still left unanswered. There are many different mysteries from across the series that still need to be solved when the final episode releases next week.

10Why Did Mae Switch Places With Osha?

Does It Make Sense For Her To Leave Her Sister To Die?

Something that has been somewhat inconsistent throughout the series is the portrayal of Mae’s motivations. One moment she is set on killing the Jedi who took Osha from their home, the next she is willing to turn herself in to the Jedi in order to be with her sister once again. By the end ofThe Acolyteepisode 5, her motivations take another turn, with Mae switching places with Osha and leaving her alone withThe Stranger (Manny Jacinto).

If she was so willing to turn herself in to the Jedi for her sister an episode ago,why would she knock Osha out and switch places with her after a single fight? The two of them have not seen each other in years, and it is clear now that Osha has been manipulated. Whether or not Mae now actually plans on killing Sol, even after fleeing from her master and refusing to killKelnacca, remains to be seen.

The former Padawan of Jedi Master Sol, Mae gets swept up into a sinister mystery—one that puts her into the center of a conflict in unexpected ways.

9Will Osha Fall To The Dark Side With The Stranger?

Episode 6 Suggested She Has The Capacity For Darkness

After The Stranger took Osha to his hidden planet, he attempted to manipulate her into falling to the dark side for the majority of their time together on screen. Not only did he explain that Sol’s power in the Force is her power in the Force, but he used his scar to show his own personal issues with the Jedi. He gave a compelling case, all culminating in Osha putting on theSith Lord’s helmetat the end of the episode.

With the cliffhanger of Osha putting on The Stranger’s helmet, it seems likely she will struggle even more with this pull to the dark side in the final episode.

The real question is whether Osha will really fall to the dark side or not. It seems thatthe further she goes, the closer to falling she becomes, with Mae growing closer to the light side of the Force as the series goes on - keeping the two of them in balance with one another. With the cliffhanger of Osha putting on The Stranger’s helmet, it seems likely she will struggle even more with this pull to the dark side in the final episode.

8How Did Mae Survive The Fall On Brendok?

Was She Saved, Or Did She Survive Alone?

At the end of “Choice,” it is revealed that Sol made a choice of his own to save Osha and forsake Mae. Sol used the Force to keep the bridge together, but by the time it was too much for him to hold, he allowed Mae to drop, then catching Osha before she could fall to what he assumed was her death. Mae survived this fall, only to come back years later on her quest to kill the Jedi involved.

How did she survive a fall from so high up? It has happened before inStar Wars, with characters such as Darth Maul not only surviving a fall from such a height, but being cut in half as well.It could be possible that the anger she felt from that day kept her alive, or perhaps she was found or even caught by someone at the bottom, such as Mother Koril.

7Are Osha And Mae Really Two Halves Of The Same Person?

The Two Of Them Have The Same Force Symbionts

After taking the twins' blood and testing for theirmidi-chloriancounts, Padawan Torbin reveals that not only do Osha and Mae have incredibly high M-counts, but they also share the same symbiont. Essentially, a symbiont is a unique signature in the Force. In the episode,Torbin explains that even identical twins should have different symbionts, and because the two of them do not, they must be two different halves of the same whole, split by the Force.

What this actually means for Osha and Mae remains to be seen. In every instance they have appeared in the series, the two of them have seemed like their own people, wildly different from one another as sisters often are. If they really are two halves of the same person, this could explain why they so often seem to act in balance with one another on opposite sides of the Force.

6Is The Stranger Actually One Of The Sith?

And If He Is, How Do The Jedi Never Learn About Him?

Something that is made abundantly clear inStar Wars: Episode I - The Phantom MenacebyKi-Adi Mundihimself, who makes his own appearance inThe Acolyte,is that the Sith have not been seen for a millennium. It’s unclear, then, if The Stranger is actually a Sith or not. He says that the Jedi might call him one, but due to the dogmatism that has been ascribed to the Jedi in this series, that could mean any number of things.

Due to the nature of his helmet among a variety of other things, many have taken to believing that The Stranger could be one of the earliestKnights of Ren. The Knights of Ren were a dark side religious group whose beliefs focused on the lightsaber, a group that originally inspired and then operated under Kylo Ren. However, this could just end up being a theory made in the hopes of preserving the series' canon.

5What Actually Caused The Brendok Witches To Die?

What Really Happened Is Still Unclear

With the series showing that the witches of Brendok didn’t actually die in the fire that Mae started, things have become much more complicated. When using the Force to control Kelnacca’s mind and turn him against Sol and Torbin, the group of witches are eventually pushed out by another Force technique used by Master Indara. When this happens, all of them drop to the ground.

Did these witches die at that moment? And if so, what was the technique that Indara used to stop their control of Kelnacca and kill them? It has raised more questions than answers, and now with the possibility that Mother Koril survived the assault on the witches' home, there are many possibilities for the final episode of the series.

4What Will The Jedi Council Learn About What Happened?

Vernestra Rwoh Is Keeping The Jedi Council In The Dark

Earlier in the series,Vernestra Rwoh(Rebecca Henderson) made it clear that her goal was to hide the fact Jedi were being killed from theJedi Council. She cited scandal as her main reason for doing so, not wanting any word of such dangers making their way to the Senate. And now, with the way things went after Vernestra realized that Sol was the only survivor out of his group of Jedi,it is more than likely that he will take the fall should the Jedi Council continue to be manipulated or events continue to be misconstrued.

One thing is for certain: the Jedi can never know that there was a Sith involved if The Stranger really does turn out to be a Sith Lord.

Whether or not Vernestra does discover the truth of what has happened, what she actually relays back to the Jedi is another thing entirely. She has already proven that she is willing to lie to the Jedi. One thing is for certain: the Jedi can never know that there was a Sith involved if The Stranger really does turn out to be a Sith Lord.

Vernestra Rwoh

A prodigy among the Jedi of the High Republic, Vernestra “Vern” Rwoh was one of the youngest Jedi ever to achieve the rank of Knight. She served at a time of crisis for the Republic, battling on the front lines against the Nihil, the Nameless, and the Drengir, and proving herself wise beyond her years. Vern will appear in live-action in The Acolyte, set over a hundred years after she became a Master, at the tail end of the High Republic Era.

3Are The Twins Somehow Connected To Anakin Skywalker?

There Are Already Plenty Of Similarities

Even now, before the series has officially finished, there have been plenty of similarities between Anakin Skywalker and the Aniseya twins. Not only do the two of them struggle with the pull towards the dark side, butthey were also born of the Force with no father to speak of.Until now, Anakin was the only character to be born this way, with this very much leaning into why he was considered theChosen Oneby the Jedi.

Because of this, one is left to wonder if the ties to Anakin run even deeper. Will this lead into what happens down the line to create Anakin, or will the connection remain completely unmentioned? Either way, there is no way to know until the final episode releases next week.

2Why Does The Show Keep Playing Kylo Ren’s Theme?

Is This The Beginning Of The Knights Of Ren, Or Something Deeper?

In several episodes ofThe Acolyte, including the newest one,Kylo Ren’s theme can be heard playing in the background during key moments of the story. This has happened both around The Stranger and the twins themselves. Why the show chose the theme of a character that will not be born for over a hundred years is currently unknown, though there are a few possible ideas that this could tie back to.

For one, the series could be setting up the creation of the Knights of Ren. Aside from this, the theme could be referencing theForce Dyadthat Kylo Ren had with Rey. Osha and Mae have a very special bond in the Force, as they were created by aForce vergenceand could very well be the same person split into two bodies. This could end up being a Force Dyad, revealed once Osha finally has access to the Force once again.

1How Did The Stranger Get His Scar?

Theories Say It Could Be From Vernestra’s Lightwhip

One question that was brought up inThe Acolyteepisode 6 “Teach/Corrupt” revolves around the scar on The Stranger’s back.He implies thatit was a Jedi who gave it to him, though it does not look like something that would be left by a traditional lightsaber. It is curved, as opposed to a simple straight line, meaning that the weapon used to leave such a scar would have to be capable of leaving such a mark behind.

This has led fans to believe that Vernestra could have been the one to give The Stranger his scar, as she wields alightwhipinstead of a traditional lightsaber. A lightwhip would have been able to leave behind a curved scar such as the one seen on The Stranger’s back. However, until the final episode ofThe Acolytefinally airs, this will have to remain a mystery.

The Acolyteepisode 7 is now streaming. The final episode premieres Tuesday at 9 PM ET on Disney+.
