The trailer opens with Malcolm (Holland) gasping for air with his children. An AI voice, Kokoro (Dawson) then utters “Malcolm,” as the city undergoes a nuclear explosion. The trailer reveals this is Malcolm’s nightmare, similar to the one Sarah Connor has inTerminator 2: Judgment Day. Malcolm reveals Skynet will be going online and Kokoro may be able to help him prevent itA Terminator is sent back in time to kill Malcolm,but a resistance fighter, Eiko (Mizuno) arrives to protect him.

Terminator Zerowill release eight episodes on Netflix on August 29. This continues a pattern of major IPs being adapted into an animated form. Netflix has previous experience producing showssimilar to this with their animated adaptation ofCastlevania. This trend shows Netflix finds animation as a viable medium for action franchises that have roots in other mediums.

Being an animated series,Terminator Zerowill also ride the wave of adult animation series, which have been gaining popularity over the last several years. While adult animation series can take on numerous different genres, including the Prime Video seriesInvincible, which has had two seasons thus far. UnlikeTerminator Zero,Invincibledoes not have an existing live-action project to live up to in reputation.
