Summary

While there are a thousand planets inStarfieldacrossapproximately 100 star systems, most will opt to simply fast travel between them to get to the next objective or the next major story moment, but there are some who spend many hours just flying their custom starships across the vastness of space. While the consensus whenStarfieldlaunched was that there wasn’t much to do out in space, and that it took an exceptionally long time to get anywhere manually, this approach has resulted in some pretty interesting discoveries.

A clip fromWisdomOfTheStaron the r/Starfield subredditshows their ship being pulled into the orbit of a seemingly small star, spinning them around it without any aid from the player.According to WisdomOfTheStar, no mods were involved in this seemingly new feature, barring the modded ship they’re piloting, which is a Nubian Royal Starship fromStar Wars.

Starfield ships fly through space toward renders of four different planets.

Responding to another Redditor, Miku_Sagiso’s theory that they’d clipped into and were trapped inside an invisible sphere - arguing that if there were gravity involved the player would have been fired away from the star at some point like a slingshot -WisdomOfTheStar stated that they weren’t trapped in the orbit, as they could accelerate and fly away, suggesting that this could be a fun feature implemented by Bethesda, rather than a potentially game-breaking bug, even if the physics aren’t accurate.

10 Most Valuable Resources In Starfield (& Which Planets To Find Them On)

There are a lot of resources to harvest in Starfield, but some are more valuable than others in building outposts and useful weapon mods.

Many Of Starfield’s Planets Were Revealed To Be Hollow With No Gravity

When Flying Through Space, It’s Possible To Go Through Planets Entirely

As had been previously discovered by Australian video game writer, streamer, and former journalistAlanah Pearce, most ofStarfield’s planets are hollow and have no gravity when just flying across the galaxy. After 7 hours of flying between planets without using any fast travel, Pearce found herself finally approaching the dwarf planet Pluto and clipping straight through it.

It’s clear that despite having the option to manually fly across the galaxy, that Bethesda knew most people would use the game’s fast travel to quickly get from one star system to the next, andupon arriving at a planet, it’s expected that players would use one of the points of interest displayed to land, as there’s no mechanic to manually land a ship on a planet’s surface.now1996 commented WisdomOfTheStar’s Reddit post to state that when they attempted to fly into a star beforeStarfield’s first major update they flew straight through it, much like others did with planets, indicating that the addition of a gravitational pull had been added at some point post-launch.

While it’s still likely that most players will use the game’sfast travel to get to the locations neededas parts of quests or other objectives quickly, the inclusion of more gravity for stars and potentially some planets is a fun addition for those who prefer to spend more time exploring the vastness of space, and is a nice way to force them to go around planets and starts to avoid breaking the immersion of the game by clipping through them. If such a feature has also been added as part of a smaller patch afterStarfield’s launch, it also poses the question as to what else Bethesda’s added for the Settled System’s explorers.

Starfield

Bethesda Game Studios presents Starfield - the first original IP from the studio in twenty-five-plus years. Set in the year 2310, the United Colonies and Freestar Collective are observing a shaky truce after a war set 20 years prior. The player will customize their character as a member of a space exploration team called Constellation while navigating The Settled Systems and the conflicts between the warring factions. According to Bethesda, players can explore over 100 systems and 1000 planets to find resources and build their ships, living out their own sci-fi journeys.
