Squid Game Season 2’s Synopsis Confirms Why Player 456 Will Return To The Games
It Is Now Clear Why Squid Game Season 2 Will Include Player 456
A new season ofSquid Gamemakes me excited, because it opens up a world of possibilities for new plot points.Squid Gameseason 2 could have been about a new set of characters getting lured into participating in the games. Instead, the synopsis for season 2 confirms the show will follow on from the previous seasonand follow Seong Gi-hun as he is out to get the games' creators.
Some other nods to season 1 have also been confirmed. The director ofSquid Gamesaid thatthe ddakji player will be back, so I am hoping we will see much more of him than we did in season 1 and that we will be shown his motives for getting involved in recruiting people for the games. The director also said that the big doll Young-hee from season 1’s game Red Light, Green Light has a boyfriend who will be introduced in season 2 (viaX).

Squid Game Season 2’s Seong Gi-hun Story Makes Sense After Season 1’s Ending
Squid Game Season 1 Left Some Things Open For Gi-hun
It was clear at the end of Squid Gameseason 1 that Gi-hun still had his head in the games, although it was left open what his plan was. This is why Gi-hun coming back inSquid Gameseason 2 is needed to develop this story further.Gi-hun being a contestant in the games for a second time is an interesting approachfor season 2. It ensures that the show’s initial concept of contestants playing deadly children’sgames inSquid Gameremains, but Gi-hun trying to stop them still progresses the story.
It is reasonable to assume that many contestants already played the games before Gi-hun did and that there may have been others who tried to stop the games, but failed. Jun-ho was season 1’s example of someone else that found out about the dark side of the games and tried to infiltrate them to no avail. Jun-ho tried to blend in as a guard, butthe season 2 synopsis implies that Gi-hun will re-enter the game as a contestant instead.

Squid Gameseason 2 will premiere on Netflix on July 11, 2025.
Season 2’s outline also leaves it open whether the creators of the games are aware Gi-hun participated before, how he manages to get back in, and whether he will be in disguise. Gi-hun’s return to the games and the announcement thatSquid Gamewill end after season 3in 2025 likely means that the show created a three-season arc around Gi-hun.It makes the return of player 456 inSquid Gamean interesting and natural development for the show.
