While it seemed unlikely that an anime as popular asSpy x Familywould fail to be renewed for a third season, the months-long wait for an announcement after the second season’s finale in December 2023, had more than a few fans of the hit spy action comedy thinking the worst. Not even the premiere of the franchise’s first big-screen movie –Spy x Family: Code White- was enough to staunch the sense of foreboding fans were experiencing. The first two seasons of the Wit Studio and CloverWorks productions have loosely covered about half of the story told in theSpy x Familymanga so far. The event, which was announced on the officialSpy x FamilyAnimewebsite, was entitledSpy x FamilyAnime Extra Mission. It brought together the Japanese cast and crew of the series in a live performance of the originalSpy x Familystories by Aya Yajima, the author of theSpy x Family: Family Portraitlight novel. The event included a sit-down conversation by the actors and staff about the series and its production. At the end of the event, the new season was announced, including the release of new visuals that offer a glimpse of what to expect in the upcoming season.
Is Spy x Family Code: White Canon?
Spy x Family Code: White has finally released in theaters for audiences to enjoy, but many are wondering if the movie follows the anime canon.
Additionally,Spy x Familyhad a special panel at Jump Festa 2025, which shared a few updates about the franchise, disclosing arelease window for the third seasonfor Fall 2025 alongside a new illustration by the series’ character designer, Kazuaki Shimada, in commemoration of the news. Although the exact release date was not disclosed, more information is bound to come out as the Fall season approaches.
Also, although it wasn’t confirmed how many episodes Season 3 will have either, considering the big workload of CloverWorks, that the anime has adapted 59 chapters into 37 episodes, and the poster forSpy x Family Season 3has Easter eggs of the Friendship Scheme Arc and Red Circus Arc, it is most likely that the anime will have at least 12 episodes covering till chapter 78 of the manga.
Spy X Family Season 3 Release Window
In the main stage of Jump Festa 2025, the responsible party forSpy x Family’s adaptation revealed thatthe new episodes of the anime will begin to be broadcast in October 2025.Unfortunately, this means that fans still have many months ahead before the release ofSpy x Family season 3, which will begin broadcasting exactly two years after the premiere of its season 2 in October 2023.
This means the wait to continue with the Forger’s story has been somewhat long, consideringSxFseason 1 was divided into two cours, premiering both in 2022, and fans only had to wait for a year before the new installment of the franchise, which is a short gap. However, this long waiting time is understandable considering that Wit Studio is currently working on the remake ofOne Pieceand the extensive production schedule of CloverWorks studio for the upcoming year, with several announced projects confirmed to release soon.

No debut date for the third season was included in the early announcement on June 2024 taking half a year for the revelation of the release window. Season one aired from August 10, 2025, to June 26, 2025. Part one of season one was released between April and June, and part two was released between October and December. Finally, season two aired from June 27, 2025, to August 10, 2025. Based on these past release schedules,an October 2024 release date was anticipated for season three, but instead it will be two years after the season 2 debut.
The gap betweenSpy x Family’sfirst and second seasons was not exceptionally long.Less than a year passed between the end of season one and the beginning of season two, leading fans to believe that season three would follow the same schedule. However, for unknown reasons, this upcoming season is taking WIT Studio and CloverWorks', the studios responsible for creating the series, longer to make than previous seasons of the beloved spy shōnen anime.

The second season digs deeper intoLoid’s mission to get closer to Donovan Desmondand the ancillary effects it is having on the Forger’s. One of the most intriguing developments during the mission isLoid’s growing partnership with Fiona Frost, a fellow agent in his spy network, which leads Yor to believe she is no longer essential to Loid.
Yor’s behavior in response to her feelings, leads Loid to believe that Yor is becoming less dedicated to their original agreement. While this creates some trust issues between the two, it also suggests a growing mutual attraction between the two that is likely to have a profound impact on their “partnership” going forward.
What To Expect in Spy X Family’s Season 3
With the first season establishing the background of Loid, Yor, and Anya, and the second season delving into the context of how their secrets both contribute to and detract from their personal and professional goals, in season 3, fans can look forward to a greater emphasis on the intricacies of Operation Strix. This will include seeing Loid and his colleagues in the WISE office in Ostania conducting more field operations to facilitateLoid’s interactions with Donovan Desmondand eliminate all threats to that goal.
