If Detective Mark Kincaid (Patrick Depmsey) returns inScream7, he could bethe perfect replacement for Officer Dewey’s (David Arquette) character in the leading trio.Dewey is a beloved character throughout all the franchise’s films in which he is featured. However, given that he was killed off inScream(2022), the only remaining survivors in the central trio are Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) and Gale Weathers (Courtney Cox).Scream 7’s returning castis already confirmed to include both of the aforementioned stars, in addition to the reports of Dempsey returning as well.
In thechronological order of theScreammovies, Detective Kincaid first appears in the third film. He does not appear in the fourth, fifth, or sixth installments. He is mentioned in the fifth movie and is now Sidney’s husband and the father of her three children. Given the frequency of his appearances, a Kincaid cameo won’t seem like it came from out of the blue. What’s more, the potentialreturn of his character to the upcoming installment could even mean he will have a significant role inScream 7.

His Returning Role Could Help Fight Off Ghostface
InScream 3, Mark is one of the detectives solving the case of the murders of another Ghostface killer. If hestill is a detective, Mark could easily fill in the police officer role (but as a detective, of course).If he is not, there is still the potential for him to work as a detective in the story. Mark could use his connections in the field to help solve the murders of the Ghostface killer. His role or connections as a detective will then prove his necessaryreturn to help Sidney in her next Ghostface battle inScream 7.
After Dewey, Deputy Judy Hicks (Marley Shelton) is another law enforcer who has made appearances in several movies. Similar to Dewey, she was also killed off inScream(2022).
Unfortunately, Dempsey’sreturn inScream 7is bad news for Sidneyand him. Although Dewey is a police officer, Ghostface still murders him. This ending could easily happen to Mark inScream 7as well. If he is supposed to bethe new member of the leading surviving trio, he could live to appear in another installment in the franchise.Then, he could continue to appear in futureScreamfilms in a similar role as Dewey and use his law enforcement role to help fight off Ghostface with Sidney and Gale.

He Already Has A Connection To The Main Trio
Mark’s marital connection to Sidney allows him to already have access to join the surviving trio inScream7. If he were acharacter that randomly came back for the seventh installment, it would not make as much sense for him to join the group.It would be possible. However, his predisposed connection makes his new role easier to obtain. He will also naturally want to help and protect Sidney as her husband, so Mark’s place in the trio will naturally work well inScream7.
This leaves room for a new main couple to root for, making Mark join the trio as Sidney’s husband makes sense forScream 7.
Ironically,Mark being married to another member ofScream’s surviving trio is another way he is the perfect new addition.Gale and Dewey got engaged at the end ofScream 3and were married for fourteen years before getting a divorce.Courtney Cox is in talks for herScream 7return, but Arquette, her counterpart, will not because of his character’s death. This leaves room for a new main couple to root for, hence why Mark joining trio as Sidney’s husband makes sense forScream 7.
Mark’s History In The Franchise Makes Him The Perfect Addition To Scream 7
He Is A Familiar Favorite
SincePatrick Dempsey is eyed to return to theScream 7cast, his role as Mark means his character could use his skills as a survivor to fight off Ghostface again. Evenif he was not a detective inScream 3, he still knows how to survive.Kirby (Hayden Panettiere) returns inScream IVas an FBI agent but uses her knowledge of the Ghostface killers she faced as a teenager to fight off the killers again. Thus, Mark’s knowledge, not just as a detective but as a survivor, is crucial for his return as a new member of the survivor trio inScream 7.
After all, Mark and Sidney have a lot of on-screen chemistry, and he becomes close enough to her, Gale, and Dewey that he is at her house with them at the film’s end.
Mark’s return toScream 7and having him join the trio would also do justice to his character’s ongoing story.InScream 3’s ending,he has a lot of potential to return in future films but never does until potentially this upcoming film.After all, Mark and Sidney have a lot of on-screen chemistry, and he becomes close enough to her, Gale, and Dewey that he is at her house with them at the film’s end. Mentioning his character inScream(2022) does help pay tribute to Mark. Including him in the seventh installment and having him join the surviving trio would further honor him.
If Dempsey returns to the franchise inScream 7, this sets up a promising establishment for the series' surviving trio. His character asMark could also be more fleshed out and show his potential in this seventh installment.The film has experienced several actors leaving the franchise for numerous reasons, soScream 7will have to explain character absences. Nevertheless, including a new character in the survivor’s trio could lead toScream 7’s success even with these absences.
