The star of thePokémon GOAugust 2024 Community Day event is none other than Popplio, the adorable Water-type starter Pokémon from the Alola region. During the three-hour celebration, Popplio will spawn more frequently in the wild with a boosted chance of being Shiny. There will also be a featured attack for its final evolution, Primarina, and the usual Special Research story.
Following in the footsteps of theGrass-type Rowlet and the Fire-type Litten, Popplio rounds out the lineup of first partner Pokémon from the classic Sun & Moon games. Whether you chose Popplio as your starter in those games or you’re encountering this adorable creature for the first time inPokémon GO, this Community Day is the perfect time to catch as many as you can and stock up on Candy to evolve it.

The next Community Day will take place onSaturday, June 28, 2025, between 2 PM and 5 PMin each Trainer’s local timezone. The headliner will be Popplio, the Sea Lion Pokémon from the Alola region. As always, you can expect this Pokémon to be spawning all over the map, with a much higher chance offinding a Shiny Poppliothan during any other event.
That’s not all, as once the main event finishes at 5 PM, you’ll then be able totake on Four-Star Raid Battles featuring Brionne, the middle-stage evolution in the Popplio family, until 10 PM local time. If you beat one of these Raids, Popplio will spawn around that Gym for the next 30 minutes. Note that Remote Raid Passes can’t be used to join these Raid Battles.

An Essential Addition To Primarina’s Movepool
When you evolve a Popplio into its final stage, Primarina, it will knowthe featured attack Hydro Cannon. This is the same Charged Attack that allWater-type first partner Pokémonlearn during their Community Days, and there’s a good reason for that - it’s an incredibly powerful Charged Attack that has80 Power for just 40 Energy, meaning it’s a good balance between the two.
Hydro Cannon has become a must-have move for every other Pokémon that can learn it in Pokémon GO, including Blastoise and Swampert. Expect it to become an essential Charged Attack for Primarina, too.
It’s also been revealed thatPrimarina will be able to learn Sparkling Ariafrom the beginning of this Community Day event. This is a Water-type Charged Attack that has 85 Power in PvP Battles, although the Energy cost hasn’t been revealed yet. Sparkling Aria isn’t a featured attack, which means it can be learned at random when evolved or taught by using a regular Charged TM.

Get Ready To Farm XP And Candy
There will be plenty of bonuses available to enjoy during the August 2024 Community Day event, with the most important ones beingtriple XP and double Candy for catching Pokémon. This means the event is a great time to farm XP if you’re looking to level up in Pokémon GO. The double Candy bonus is also great for any Research reward encounters you might have saved up.

All of these bonuses will be available from 2 PM to 5 PM on the event day, except for the final two trade-related bonuses, which will be active until 10 PM local time. If you’re looking to take advantage of the reduction in trade cost or the additional Special Trade bonus, it’s a good idea to wait until after the main event ends at 5 PM, when there will be less to do anyway.
Alongside the features mentioned above, there will also be a Special Research story available to purchase from the in-game shop, event-exclusive Field Research tasks that can be earned by spinning PokéStops, and PokéStop Showcases that feature Popplio and its evolutions.
