One Pieceepisode #1113 was surprisingly slow by the anime’s most recent standards, but it was still fun to watch and set up another great episode inepisode #1114. The story’s interlude from Egghead Island continues to be a great turn of events, and even with how slow the latest episode was, there’s still plenty to be excited about.

One Pieceepisode #1113 continued the anime’s interlude fromEgghead Islandand changed the scene to Pirate Island, the home base of the Blackbeard Pirates following Blackbeard’s ascension to being an Emperor. Koby was still being held prisoner there following the Blackbeard Pirates’ attack on Amazon Lily, and as such,One Pieceepisode #1113 was focused primarily on Koby’s attempts to escape from Pirate Island.

What Happened In One Piece Episode 1113?

Produced By Toei Animation; Directed By Yusuke Suzuki

InOne Pieceepisode #1113, “Run, Koby! A Desperate Escape Strategy!,” following Koby’s imprisonment on Pirate Island,Blackbeard revealed his master plan was to have the World Government recognize Pirate Island as a legitimate nation, and he planned on using Koby as a bargaining chip to make it happen. Koby told him that wouldn’t work because he was a member of SWORD, to which Kuzan explained that meant Koby was in a position where the Marines could disavow Koby at any moment. Nevertheless, Blackbeard still thought he could use Koby for something, and he remained imprisoned on Pirate Island.

During his imprisonment, Koby was saved by the timely arrival of Perona, who freed Koby in exchange for helping her free Moria. Koby reluctantly agreed, and he escaped with dozens of prisoners in tow. Unfortunately,Avalo Pizarro of the Blackbeard Pirates, using his Isle-Isle Fruit powers to fuse with the island, quickly discovered them and sent everyone after them, soKoby, using his five star i.e. 500 million Berry bounty from Cross Guild, acted as bait so the other prisoners could try to escape.

With a heavy ball and chain around his leg and hundreds of pirates on his tail, things were looking grim for Koby, but suddenly, the other members of SWORD arrived to save Koby. Some members attacked the Blackbeard Pirates with bodies made of clay, and other pirates were assaulted by Kujaku, the granddaughter of Vice-Admiral Tsuru, and her powerful Whip-Whip Fruit. The biggest spot of hope for Koby came at the end of the episode, though, where it was reiterated thatGarp had gone with SWORD to rescue Koby and was about to begin his attack on Pirate Island.

One Piece Hints That One Character Is Still Working With The Heroes

The reveal that Kuzan joined the Blackbeard Pirates was a major shock,One Pieceepisode #1113 suggests there may be more to it. According to Kuzan, members of SWORD are allowed to do things that are usually forbidden for Marines in exchange for having their actions disavowed on an official level, so that could meanKuzan only joined the Blackbeard Pirates to spy on them as a member of SWORD. There’s precedent in X Drake doing the same thing with the Beast Pirates, so it hopefully won’t be long before the series gives a clear answer.

One Piece’s Anime Falls Back Into Some Of Its Worst Pacing Problems

One Pieceepisode #1113 was a great episode on a visual front, but unfortunately, the pacing failed to keep up with that. One Piece’s anime has always been infamous for its slow pacing to the point of only ever adapting one chapter at best per episode, and sure enough,One Pieceepisode #1113 not adapting an entire chapter of the manga made it hard to sit throughand made its ending notably awkward in structure. Expanding on Perona helping Koby escape was good to see, but other than that, the pacing left a lot to be desired.

If there’s any upside to that, though, it’s that episode #1114 should be a step up in quality. Episode #1114 will cover Garp’s iconic entrance into the fight, and based on the preview alone,One Pieceepisode #1114 will be another episode with gorgeous visuals, specifically surrounding Garp’s Galaxy Impact. That will more than make up for theOne Pieceanimedropping the ball with episode #1113, and it’s sure to go down as another one of the anime’s best installments.
