Summary

I want one very different version of the Hulk, who nobody has been talking about, to return in Marvel Studios' upcomingDeadpool & Wolverine. Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s debut in theMCUproper is expected to feature a huge number of cameos, bringing back characters from Fox’sX-Menfranchise and the MCU itself. Theories have been rife regarding who might pop up in the upcoming Phase 5 movie, but one has prevailed more than others, and I, for one, would love to see theHulk make an appearance inDeadpool & Wolverine.

TheHulk has connections to both Deadpool and Wolverinein Marvel Comics, meaning it makes complete sense that the green Avenger would pop up during their MCU debut. In fact,Wolverine made his first appearance in Marvel Comics during a battle with the Hulk, and I would love to see this iconic spar play out in live-action. However, whileMark Ruffalo’s iteration of Bruce Banner’s Hulkhas become the longest-running and most recognizable version of the character, I would love to see a very different Hulk appear inDeadpool & Wolverine.

I Want To See Lou Ferrigno’s Hulk Return In Deadpool & Wolverine

Marvel Studios has several options to choose from when deciding which Hulk could appear inDeadpool & Wolverine. The most obvious choice would be Mark Ruffalo’s, particularly since Marvel’s relationship with Edward Norton is strained, andEric Bana has denied his involvement inDeadpool & Wolverine, despite being close friends with Hugh Jackman. However, my top pick would be none of the above, asI would love to see Lou Ferrigno get painted green one more time for a cameo in the MCU’s Phase 5.

Lou Ferrigno debuted as the Hulk, opposite Bill Bixby’s Dr. David Bruce Banner, in CBS seriesThe Incredible Hulk. The series ran for 80 episodes between 1978 and 1982, and spawned three TV movies which partnered the Hulk with other iconic Marvel heroes, including Thor and Daredevil. Before the times of CGI and advanced visual effects, bodybuilderFerrigno played the Hulk with no augmentation, but with his muscular body painted green. I would be thrilled for Ferrigno’s Hulk to return inDeadpool & Wolverine, and this could be very likely.

Lou Ferrigno Has A Strong Relationship With Marvel Studios, So His Return Makes Sense

Lou Ferrigno has been vocal about hiscriticism towards the current version of the Hulkin the MCU, noting that he was"disappointed"with the Hulk’s recent portrayal in 2019 (viaComicbook.com).Ferrigno repeated these sentiments toSyracusein 2022, suggesting he was"very disappointed"with the MCU’s Smart Hulk, as the Hulk should be"authentic, hideous [and] more organic.“Despite these comments,Ferrigno has a strong relationship with Marvel Studios, and may be even more convinced to return in an effort to bring back a more savage version of the Hulk.

Ferrigno’s prior relationship with Marvel Studios makes me very hopeful that he could return inDeadpool & Wolverine.

Ferrigno appeared as a security guard in 2003’sHulk, which wasn’t a part of the MCU, and 2008’sThe Incredible Hulk, but also continued to play the Hulk himself for a time.In the MCU’s early days, Norton and Ruffalo played Bruce Banner, while Ferrigno provided the voice of the Hulk. Ferrigno voiced the Avenger inThe Incredible Hulk, The AvengersandAvengers: Age of Ultron, and collaborated on theHulk’s voice inThor: Ragnarok.Ferrigno’s prior relationship with Marvel Studios makes me very hopeful that he could return inDeadpool & Wolverine.
