As it turns out,Dick Grayson’s ex-girlfriend Bea Bennett, surprisingly, had a very similar life trajectory, where she witnessed the death of a parent, before being whisked away into a fantastical life.
Nightwing 2024 Annual#1 reveals the surprisingsecret origin of Bea Bennett. Originally, Bea seemed like just a regular civilian, with only some hints of a tragic past, such as the fact she spent time homeless for a bit. However, Bea’s origins are much closer to Dick than anyone realized.
Bea spent a great deal of time homeless on the streets of Bludhaven, fighting to survive, until she eventually attracted the attention of the Hold, and the pirate society around it. After that, she was quickly adopted and given an entire legacy to live up to.

After Dick Grayson’s parents were killed, he was adopted by Bruce Wayne and quickly found a life much larger than the one he had before. Dick was trained to be Robin and has become one of the most influential and beloved heroes in DC’s mythology. While theloss of his parents was a tragedy, he gained another life and a new family thanks to Bruce Wayne reaching out to him and bringing him into a new world. While Bea Bennett wasn’t given nearly the lavish opportunities that Dick was, their tragedies still led them to similar places.
Following her mother’s death, Bea Bennett spent a long time on the streets. Wanting to investigate the scene of her mother’s demise once again, Bea stole a yacht and traveled to where her mother was killed This is where she was stopped by Captain Blud and his pirates. Without Bruce Wayne adopting Dick and helping him become a hero, it’s likely he would’vebecome a Talon for the Court of Owlsinstead.
