Summary

A new trailer forThe Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdomhas confirmed the return of one ofOcarina of Time’s best features, along with another look at some of the tribes Zelda will be interacting with, and her traversal methods as she ventures across Hyrule. The game was announced at theJune 2024 Nintendo Direct showcaseand sees Princess Zelda in the lead role - rather than the series' usual playable protagonist, Link - and features an art style similar to that of the 2019 remake ofLink’s Awakening.

A new post on the officialNintendo of AmericaX account accompanied this trailer, reiterating some of its highlights: from the different regions of Hyrule players will be able to explore, new powers Zelda will be able to wield, and the fact thatshe will be able to ride horses across the map when not using waypoints for fast travel. Horse riding was first introduced toThe Legend of Zeldaseries as a gameplay mechanic inOcarina of Time, but has appeared several times since, most recently inBreath of the WildandTears of the Kingdom.

Throughout the new footage, Zelda’s horseback riding skills seem to make light work of weaker enemies, as she can gallop straight over them to send them flying. It also makes getting across the map far easier, as Zelda’s horse can jump over small obstacles with ease.

Every Unique Horse In Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Ranked Worst To Best

Apart from the game’s many wild horses, Link can find and tame six unique horses in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and each has its own pros and cons.

Zelda’s Horse May Also Be Customizable

There Were Two Different Appearances Shown In The Trailer

InBreath of the Wildand its sequel, players had totame and register their new horseand learn how to ride it without getting bucked off. There’s no confirmation as to whether these additional steps will be returning inEchoes of Wisdomor not, or if Zelda will simply have a horse she has already trained from the start.

Once Zelda can make a carrot echo, she’s able to call upon her horse at any time.

There is a hint that if there aren’t multiple horses that Zelda can ride inEchoes of Wisdom, there may be some form of customization available for Zelda’s trusty steed. There were two different appearances shown in the trailer, with the first being a brown horse with a darker brown saddle, and the second being a white horse with golden hair.

Either way, it’s nice to see horse riding making a return inThe Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdomas a way of getting around Hyrule. As for the other potential features surrounding it, such as customization, players won’t have to wait too much longer to see how these play out, as the game launches exclusively on Nintendo Switch on September 26th.
