Summary

Michael C. Hall has not finished playing Dexter Morgan, with his return now confirmed for both theDexter: Original Sinprequel show and a new sequel series. Originally assuming the role of the Miami-based vigilante serial killer in 2006, Hall’s tenure as the titular character would earn him a swathe of award nominations and even a Golden Globe win for Best Actor – Television Series Drama in 2010. Most recently, Hall has been involved as anexecutive producer onDexter: Original Sin,which is set to star Patrick Gibson as a younger version of his character.

At this year’s San Diego Comic Con, Hall made an appearance at theDexter: Original Sinpanel where it was revealed that he would be returning to narrate the new prequel series. Additionally,Hall is also confirmed to be returning for season 2 of the previously cancelledDextersequel show,Dexter: New Blood, albeit with the show gaining a new title,Resurrection. There Is No Dexter Without Michael C. Hall

Hall’s Version Of The Character Remains The Franchise’s Biggest Drawcard

While the original show would cast several younger actors in the role for its assorted flashback sequences, Hall has remained the character’s most easily identifiable face and was always the show’s constant narrator.

This latest two-pronged announcement will likely come as good news for fans of the originalDexter, and Hall’s iconic performance as the vigilante killer. While the original show would cast several younger actors in the role for its assorted flashback sequences, Hall has remained the character’s most easily identifiable face and was always the show’s constant narrator. Having him back to continue this tradition inDexter: Original Sinwill only serve tohelp bridge the gap between the two shows, and assuage fears that Gibson’s Dexter may be unable to live up to his predecessor.

All 6 Dexter Characters Confirmed To Return In Dexter: Original Sin

The highly anticipated Dexter prequel series will see the return of several of the original series characters and will recast its titular protagonist.

As forDexter: Resurrection, it had already been revealed as far back as February 2023 thatNew Bloodwould continue on with a new focus on Jack Alcott’s Harrison, though Showtime would later cancel these plans in favor ofOriginal Sin. However, the confirmation thatDexter: New Bloodseason 2is still moving ahead, albeit with a new title, and that Hall is also expected to return would seemingly confirm previous theories that he is likely to appear to Harrison in much the same way that his adopted father, Harry Morgan (James Remar), would appear to him throughout the original show.

While the sequel’s new title may also hint at a miraculous return for Hall’s Dexter, the implied resurrection likely instead refers to Harrison resuming the same kind of vigilante killing that his father was famous for. Having Harrison pick up his father’s scalpel and embark on his own career as a vigilante serial killer is an exciting enough prospect in itself, but having Hall’s Dexter become the voice ofhis son’s own Dark Passengerwill only serve to make the show that much better. In the meantime, his return as the voice of Dexter forDexter: Original Sinproves that Hall is still very much the heart of the franchise.
