Keri Russell shares a pitch for a reboot ofFelicity, giving an encouraging response to revisiting her memorable role. Russell is doing a press tour, preparing for the return of the Netflixpolitical dramaThe Diplomat, which makes her comeback to the small screen after her run on the acclaimed spy thrillerThe Americans. But for many, Russell is still best remembered for her breakout lead role inFelicity. Created by the duo of Matt Reeves and J.J. Abrams, the college drama ran from 1998 to 2002 on The WB.

In an interview withE! News, along withDiplomatco-star Rufus Sewell, Russell was asked about the possibility of rebootingFelicity. The four-time Emmy nominee gave an encouraging response, noting that she’s close with co-stars Scott Speedman (who played love interest Ben Covington) and Amanda Foreman (who played goth roommate Meghan Rotundi) and thatshe’d be open to it for the right idea. In the quote below, Russell also offers a pitch from Foreman on how a reboot could work:

I would totally do that, if it was the right stuff. My gosh, absolutely. Speedman and Mandy, who played my crazy goth roommate, we all still talk all the time. Speedman was in my dream last night. Oh, my God, he was! That’s so crazy. I just remembered that. They’re like, my total pals. I love that.

Mandy had a good pitch for it ,actually, a really good pitch. You know, like, life wasn’t going great, and, you know, didn’t work out, and she [Felicity] was supposed to be all these things, and then she bumps into someone or, you know, but never say never. Of course.

What Russell’s Comments Mean For A Felicity Reboot

Abrams Isn’t So Keen On The Idea

Back in 2016, while speaking toEntertainment Weekly, Abrams downplayed his interest in revisitingFelicity. At the time, the co-creator explained that he was involved with a lot of reboots and sequels such asStar TrekandStar Warsmovies. Still, Abrams did mention his fondness for working with a cast that also included Amy Jo Johnson, Tangi Miller, Scott Foley,Greg Grunberg, and Ian Gomez. He said in part: “I did love doing that show so much and I loved working with those people.”

Felicity: How Elena Is Still Alive In The Series Finale

The series finale of Felicity wrapped up a confusing five-episode story arc, but one mystery remained unsolved: how Elena came back from the dead.

The same, years later, is echoed in Russell’s response. Although she’s not closed off to the idea of coming back for her Golden Globe-winning performance as Felicity Porter, her answer is as much about how she enjoyed her time on the show and fond memories of fellow actors. Despite that fondness, there has been minimal talk about reviving the young adult drama.

Our Take On A Felicity Reboot

There’s Definitely Some Intrigue To It

Felicityfamously brings some time travel into its ending, concluding with a somewhat rocky finish. Because of that, and because of how Russell, Abrams, and Reeves are all now arguably better known for their more recent works, there is a certain intrigue in revving up the former WB staple. The trio could have fun with it if the right premise came along, though it seems a long way from happening.
