An optimistic statement onPlayStation.Blogmakes it seem as though the shortage could be over. “To all our fans: thank you for your patience as we navigated unprecedented demand for the PS5 console amid global challenges. If you’re looking to purchase a PS5 console, you should now have a much easier time finding one at retailers globally.”
PlayStation also echoed the statement in a tweet promoting the post saying that “finding a PS5 should become easier starting this year.”

This could mean you’ll finally be able to buy a console in 2023 and see for yourselfif it’s worth upgrading from PS4 to PS5, but it might not be right away.
How Is This Different From Sony’s Previous Statements?
Since its launch, PS5 consoles have been incredibly hard to come by because of a global semiconductor chip shortage. Sony’s made multiple statements about increasing its supplies over the years, but this one is the most optimistic yet.
In the quote, PlayStation thanks you for your patience in navigating the issue, meaning it’s possible that the company might’ve solved it. Even so, that doesn’t mean the consoles will suddenly appear in stores.

Does This Mean That PS5s Will Be Available?
You may want to hang tight and embrace your PS4 longer. While Sony says you should have an easier time finding one now, unfortunately, it doesn’t mean it’s guaranteed to happen right now.
You’ll likely see a lot of other gamers buying up the consoles as retailers restock them—console scalpersand bots too. Plus, when you finally come across one, it might not be the exact bundle or model you want if you preferthe standard PS5 versus the Digital Editionor vice versa.

But that doesn’t mean you won’t find one either—and with the announcement from Sony, it seems like your chances are getting better.
Is the PS5 Shortage Over?
Things are looking up. It’s not safe to say whether or not the PS5 shortage is over, but the good news is, it sounds as though it’s going to get easier to find one in 2023.
In the meantime, hang tight, enjoy your PS4, and keep looking.
