Summary
TheAlien: Romulustrailers look to be spoiling a lot of the movie, and that only makes me think that a big surprise is in store. Ever since it was announced that Fede Alvarez would be directing a newAlienmovie, excitement for the franchise returning to its horror roots was clear. The high anticipation levels that were baked intoAlien: Romulusonly grew as Disney and 20th Century began marketing the latest installment. Set betweenAlienandAliens, the franchise prequel caught my attention because of how much it looked like it updated the best parts of the series.
As the film’s July 19, 2025 release date approaches, the studios have not shied away from releasing moreAlien: Romulustrailersto generate excitement. Following the original trailer launch in March, another great trailer dropped in June that seemed like it would be the final push two months out. Now, thefinalAlien: Romulustrailerhas been released with less than a month to go until the movie is in theaters. I already felt like the previous footage gave away a lot, but there’s even more revealed now - and I can’t help but think there’s a reason for it.

There’s Compelling Evidence That Alien: Romulus Is Hiding 1 Major Twist In Plain Sight
Alien: Romulus seems to have a surprisingly small cast, but all the apparent spoilers in its trailers led to a compelling fan theory about this fact.
Alien: Romulus' Trailers Have Spoiled Several Major Sequences Already
Deaths, Chestbursters, & More Have Been Shown
One of the bigsurprises withAlien: Romulus' trailersas the marketing has continued is seeing just how much of the movie has already seemingly been shown. From the very first trailer, hints at the fates of multiple characters could be gleaned. But now, after three trailers,it is pretty obvious how a few different characters will die. Attacks by facehuggers have been directly shown, and now almost the entire chestburster sequence happening to Aileen Wu’s Navarro has been seen, sealing the fate of this new character.
With each trailer release, it has become easier to piece together various plot elements that could be considered spoilers under normal circumstances. Character deaths and recreations of iconic franchise sequences are typically kept out of trailers to this degree. That makes how Disney and 20th Century have handledAlien: Romulus' marketing campaign somewhat suspicious to me. It seems likethere should be plenty of other non-spoilery footage to useor that different edits could hide these spoilers more easily. Now, I think that all these “spoilers” are being shown for a specific reason.

The “Spoilers” For Alien: Romulus Could Be Hiding A Bigger Surprise
Something More Shocking Must Be Coming
If Disney and 20th Century, and even Fede Alvarez, are willing to show everything that we’ve already seen inAlien: Romulus' trailers, it stands to reason that these “spoilers” aren’t really spoilers at all. Well, or at least they are not the movie’s biggest surprise.I believe that the studios have used these spoilery sequences to distract audiences, making them focus on what has been shown instead of asking what types of secret reveals that movie could still be holding.
Alien: Romulushas been described as a standalone entry in the franchise, butsetting it betweenAlienandAliensis purposeful. I’m not fully expecting a massive franchise crossover to now happen that helps putSigourney Weaver’s Ripley inAlien: Romulusfor a cameo of some level. That said, it would also be slightly less surprising for the franchise to pull this off and give lifelongAlienfans a major surprise before the credits roll. This would surely help make up for any potential spoilers thatAlien: Romulus' trailer does include.
