Married At First Sightseason 18’s Michelle Tomblin has received the villain edit throughout the season, butI’m not convinced she’s the villainMAFSfans think she is, and I’m fairly certain she was set up to fail. ThroughoutMarried At First Sightseason 18, Michelle’s behavior has been scrutinized byMAFSviewers as her marriage to David Trimble has struggled. While many have been struggling with the way Michelle has treated David during the season, it’s notable that the majority of her time on screen has been focused on her relationship, even though she has an air of negativity.
Though Michelle may not be having the easiest time moving through her marriage on the show, she’s been dedicated to the idea of her relationship with David and has spent a decent amount of time trying to see if she can resolve the issues she has with him. Though Michelle and David are hardly the onlyMarried At First Sightseason 18 coupleto have issues, their problems have put Michelle into the role of the villain of the season unnecessarily. While Michelle may not always be the kindest in her delivery, she’s not as villainous asMAFSviewers believe.

MAFS Season 18’s Michelle Has Been Difficult To Watch
She’s Struggling To Connect With David
In moments it has beenunderstandable for Michelle to act out, as her relationship with David has been tough throughout the season. Michelle was hoping to be matched with someone who shared her values and understood what she was looking for in a partner. While she wasn’t disinterested in someone like David, she wanted someone who was independent in themselves and would understand her need for independence, too. After watching Michelle throughout the season, I feel I understand what she wanted fromMAFS,andthe actions we’ve seen on screen make it clear that her match didn’t provide that bond.
MAFS Viewers Have Made Michelle Out To Be The Show’s Biggest Villain
She Comes Off Like The Worst Of The Bunch
ThroughoutMarried At First Sightseason 18,Michelle’s behavior toward David has made her seem like more of a villain than a victim. During her wedding to David,Michelle had a breakdown of epic proportionsafter learning that herMarried At First Sightgroom lived at home with his parents. Despite knowing that David likely had some reasoning behind the living situation, Michelle wasn’t able to contain her reaction to finding out she’d been matched with someone she deemed to be dependent on others. Even after beginning to hear David out, Michelle still had a hard time with his situation.

After their wedding,Michelle and David continued to move throughtheMarried At First Sightprocess even though it appeared like their match wasn’t going to mesh. As she got to know more about David and learned more about his life outside of the show, Michelle continually felt like she wasn’t seeing the whole picture and wasn’t getting to know the real David. With David being secretive,Michelle didn’t know how to proceed. While Michelle’s continuous nitpicking wasn’t necessarily what viewers expected or wanted to see, her difficult attitude started to make sense when it became clear she was struggling.

Michelle Has Her Faults, But Her Behavior Makes Sense
She’s Feeling Like She Was Lied To
Although Michelle’s been having a hard time with David onMarried At First Sightseason 18, it’s been clear to viewers throughout the season that she’s been having a hard time because of the match. While Michelle’s behavior hasn’t necessarily been something I’d describe as aspirational, it makes a bit more sense when you look at it in context. After applying for a show that appeared to promise to match her with someone from an expert’s point of view, Michelle found herself in a marriage that wasn’t anything like she expected.Michelle’s been trying to accept David since the beginning.
Not only isDavid not who she anticipated, but his actions have been difficult throughout the season, too.David hasn’t given Michelle an easy time. While he may come off as a more easy-going guy who doesn’t have cares or worries, he’s been secretive, has lied to Michelle on more than one occasion, and hasn’t shown much care for the issues she’s raised about him throughout their time on the show. David’s lackadaisical attitude mixed with Michelle’s intensity has made her look like she’s the difficult one, even when David’s been in the wrong.

MAFS Set Michelle Up To Take The Fall As A Villain
They Set Her Up In A Relationship That Wouldn’t Work
Although it may not have been intentional,Michelle and David being matched uponMarried At First Sightwas the show setting her up to fail. Throughout the season, Michelle and David have been a mismatch that she appears to be pushing harder to make work, even whileDavid’s gotten the credit for being more relaxed about their differences. Michelle hasn’t been easy all the time, but her behavior is understandable if she’s treated less like a villain and more like a woman who’s disappointed in her match. Michelle shouldn’t be taking theMarried At First Sightvillain role.
