Even thoughSonic the Hedgehog 3is going to be focused on introducing Shadow to the movie universe, I hope it can also give one character a bigger role after he was sidelined in the previous movie. TheupcomingSonic the Hedgehog 3is shaping up to be an exciting installment in the growing series, finally putting Shadow in the spotlight. I’m excited to see an expanded number ofSonic the Hedgehogcharacters in the movies, slowly transforming the big screen universe into a similar one to the games.
This first began inSonic the Hedgehog 2, with the introduction of the two-tailed fox Miles “Tails” Prower and Knuckles the Echidna. I enjoyed seeing them participate in a big-screen adventure with Sonic for the first time, proving how well the movie universe can expand with other characters from the franchise. However,between the new inductees to the movie universe, one of them felt like he was sidelinedby theend ofSonic the Hedgehog 2, something I hope the third movie is able to make up for.

Tails Fell Into The Background By The End Of Sonic 2
Tails was originally introduced duringSonic the Hedgehog’s post-credits scene, where he appeared on Earth in search of the Blue Blur. The beginning ofSonic the Hedgehog 2saw his mission continue, as he arrives to warn him about Knuckles and Robotnik’s plans to hunt down the Master Emerald. This results in the pair going to Siberia in search of the ancient artifact, going on a short adventure together I thought was a heartwarming way to develop their friendship with one another.
However, onceSonic and Tails are captured by G.U.N.at Rachel’s wedding,it feels like the two-tailed fox falls into the background for the rest of the movie.While I enjoyed seeing Rachel use his tech gadgets to save him and Sonic, Knuckles started to take the spotlight from him for the remainder of the movie. Even though Tails was a major help in fighting Robotnik during the final action sequence, I feel like his developing friendship with Sonic and Knuckles should have gotten a larger focus throughout the last act.

Even though Tails had a smaller role than I would have liked in the second half ofSonic the Hedgehog 2, the third installment has a chance to make him an even more important part of the story.Tails has shown a knack for technology, being the brains of Sonic’s new friends. Because of the many gadgets he’s developed and used so far, I wouldn’t be surprised if Tails had a role to play at Space Colony ARK inSonic the Hedgehog 3- the location whereShadow was created for Maria Robotnikin the games.
If the movie pulls the ARK fromSonic Adventure 2, thenI’d want to see Tails use his technological skills to stop Shadow or Robotnik from using it as a weapon against Earth.Another potential location Tails' skills might come in handy would be on Prison Island, the location in the games where G.U.N. kept Shadow for 50 years. SinceSonic the Hedgehog 2’s post-credits scenerevealed he was in cryosleep, I think Tails will be an important part of investigating the government black site thanks to his technological talents.
I think Tails' smarts can be the perfect weapon against future antagonists, as long as it also bolsters his friendship with everyone on Sonic’s growing team.

BeyondSonic the Hedgehog 3, though, I think Tails' role can be further developed in future movies too. Because of his intelligence,I want to see him piece together different mysteries the team discovers on various adventures. For the next movie, this could involve him learning about Shadow’s backstory. But, for later installments, I’d want him to piece together information aboutfutureSonicvillains, such as Metal Sonic or Solaris. I think Tails' smarts can be the perfect weapon against future antagonists, as long as it also bolsters his friendship with everyone on Sonic’s growing team.
While I was disappointed with how Tails got sidelined during the second half of the previous movie,I thinkSonic the Hedgehog 3can remedy this by giving him a much stronger role in the story.From piecing together Shadow’s backstory to learning how to operate the ARK, I believe Tails can be an even stronger ally and friend to Sonic in the next movie. While focus is bound to be spread due to Shadow’s introduction, I think Tails could still have a bigger role that ties into the story of the next movie.
