Canva is no longer just a website to make a cool greeting card or create your next Instagram post. Canva’s Visual Suites allows teams to collaborate and build projects together.
Within Visual Suites are Docs and Presentations, features that allow you to set up documents and showcase information in slide form. But what if you were able to start on a document and transform it into a presentation?
Luckily for you, Canva has that ability—it’s called Docs to Decks. Here’s how it works.
What Does Docs to Decks Mean?

Docs to Decks is an easy-to-use feature on Canva’s free version that allows you tocreate a written document from the Docs featureand turn it into a Canva presentation. It only takes one click to do it.
Additionally, when you’re at the point of turning your document into presentation slides, it will offer you a selection of choices for designs. This is great news for you because creating presentation slides is already time-consuming work, and having to make it look presentable adds time that could be better spent on another project.
How to Use Docs to Decks in Canva
To start the process of Docs to Decks, go toCanva’s homepage. Under theWhat Will You Design Todayheader, click on theDocsicon.
From there, select theDocs to Decksfeature. Click onGet Startedand your document will open. You’ll need to remove the welcome message before getting started.
It’s important to note that Canva will be looking for headings to know where to start a new slide. This means you need to add the proper headings through Canva Docs.
To do this, click on the+ signicon on the document. SelectH1 Headingfor the main title of the whole presentation and type in your title. This will be slide one.
To add the next slide, click on the+ signicon again. SelectH2 Subheadingand type in the subtitle for that slide.
Underneath your H2 subheading, click on the+ signicon once more and select theBodyoption. This will allow you to start writing the body information for your first slide.
If you want to add graphics to your presentation, click on theElementstab on the left side toolbar. From here, you can add images, tables, charts, and more to your document. Additionally, utilize theseCanva features that make designing documents effortless.
To add the next slide, add a new subheading. Continue until you have all the information you need for your presentation. If you need help writing out your document, you can always tryusing Canva’s AI Magic Write tool.
Once you’re satisfied with your document, it’s time to turn it into a Canva presentation. In the upper right-hand corner of the Canva Editor, click onConvert.
Click through the selection of presentation visual options and scroll down to see what the slides will look like. Select the one you like the most, then clickCreate My Presentation.
From there, you’ll be sent to the Presentation Canva Editor where you’re able to make adjustments where need be. Here is where you can change color combinations, font styles, and much more. When you are ready to present your slideshow, click onPresentin the upper right-hand corner.
