Android 14 was officially released by Google in October 2023, with plenty of refinements meant to improve the user experience further. However, you will not quickly notice most of these refinements unless you dig into various sections of the operating system. One of the new additions in Android 14 is the predictive back animation.
Read on to discover what predictive back animations in Android are and how to activate the feature.

What Are Predictive Back Animations?
Predictive Back Animations is a feature in Android 14 that shows you a preview of the page you will be taken to when you swipe back. This way, you’ll know what you’re going back to before swiping, removing some of the confusion and unpredictability associated with the gesture.
Because of the nature of the feature, it only works if you’re usingAndroid’s gesture navigation system, which you can enable by going toSettings > System > Navigation mode. Additionally, you’ll only see these previews in apps that support it. As of writing, the Settings app has support, but many apps, even those from Google, don’t support the feature yet.

Enable Predictive Back Animations in Android 14
To enable the feature, you’ll have to enable Developer options first. After that, you can activate it inside the Developer options settings page. Here’s how:
Your device is now capable of displaying a preview of the next page when you want to go back using gestures.

Take Advantage of Predictive Back Animations in Android 14
If you’re someone who would like to know where the Back gesture will take you beforehand, you should enable predictive back animations. This way, you won’t be randomly taken to the home screen or some other page in an app when you don’t expect it. Though not all apps support the feature yet, you should enable it and take advantage of it whenever available.
