Summary
Robert has been a problem sinceMayor of Kingstownseason 2, but season 3, episode 8 showed him react in a way that could bring the end of his job with KPD’s SWAT. Robert’s conduct in the prison riots already highlighted many issues and he was also the target of a gang hit inMayor of Kingstownseason 2. However,Mayor of Kingstownseason 3’s premiere saw Robert return to work as if nothing had happened, being reinstated in the SWAT team despite what his physical exams and psychological evaluation brought to light.
Evelyn’s worries about Robert inMayor of Kingstownseason 3were proven right the moment Robert led his first raid back, torching an AB hideout instead of serving a warrant as Mike had requested. Robert’s actions upon his return were already problematic by themselves, but given how he had been investigated for senselessly killing inmates in the riots and his past coworker Ben Morrissey who could testify that was killed in season 2, things were all the more precarious.Mayor of Kingstownseason 3, episode 8’s ending showed a rift that could finally end Robert’s time in the SWAT team.

With the SWAT team acting more on Mike’s orders, arguments were inevitable, especially so with Kyle and Robert’s team not finding Bunny’s weapons hideout after learning about it only through Mike’s tip. Robert’s recriminations were a direct consequence of the Crips’ hit on him that almost killed him in season 2, as Mike pointed to AB as the culprits while knowing Bunny was behind it. Despite making some good points,Robert had no right to be angry at Kyle and confront him at work, making his departure from SWAT more likely were he to continue picking fights with team members.

Confronting Kyle at work showed Robert was angry at the wrong person, despite making good points about the mayor because of Mike’s solutions after the Crips’ hit on Robert.
Kyle Proved Himself On The Job & Noticed Robert Faltering
Kyle Taking Robert’s Place Would Make The SWAT Team Better
Kyle’s expertise led him to observe how Robert wasn’t feeling one hundred percent during the raids, as exemplified by his angry reaction against himself after the raid on Konstantin inMayor of Kingstownseason 3, episode 5. Even more concerningly,Robert missed a shooter inMayor of Kingstownseason 3, episode 7’s beginning, leading to Kyle having to kill him to save Robert. Were Robert to repeat such a mistake, it could cost them one of their team members’ lives, making it all the more imperative to deal with Robert’s problems.
Robert being forced out from SWAT would work on more levels. On one hand, it could protect the team as Robert often proved a liability inMayor of Kingstownseason 3, butit could also clean up KPD and the SWAT team’s image, as the DA wanted Robert to pay for his crimes, not his coworkers. This could mean something good for Kyle too, as he continued to prove himself on the job and, were Kyle to solve SWAT’s Robert problem, it could lead him to take over Robert’s role and change SWAT for the better inMayor of Kingstown.
