Summary
While the concept of hell is nothing new to theStar Warsgalaxy, it can be a bit puzzling to understand how it fits into the greater galaxy. Seeing asStar Warshas often adopted its own unique traits in terms of mythology, with the Jedi and the Force serving as the most notable examples, it makes sense that something like hell would seem too specific to the real world to be included. It has, however, become an ordinary part of the galaxy, referenced as both a location and as an expletive.
ThoughStar Warshas crafted its own unique genre by blending various others together, it’s not common for sci-fi or fantasy worlds to borrow from real-world mythology, which makes hell inStar Warsa special case. It has, however, made a place for itself in this galaxy, thanks to various retcons and other add-ons that often help viewers to make sense ofStar Wars. Here’s how hell fits into the franchise, as well as every time it’s appeared thus far in theStar Warsmovies and TV shows.

Dank Farrik: The Mandalorian Swear Word & Star Wars Curse Words Explained
Dank farrik and other Star Wars swear words are not often explained, but they remain an integral part of the lore and to the characters.
Hell Has Been Part Of Star Wars Since The Beginning
It Was First Mentioned in A New Hope
The use of hell inStar Warsdates all the way back to the beginning, with the originalStar Wars(later retitledA New Hope)movie.Owen Lars was the first to utter the word as an expletivewhen referring to Luke’s whereabouts, insisting that there would be “hell to pay” if Luke didn’t make his repairs by midday. Later on in the movie, Han Solo also uses it as an expletive, directing it towards Princess Leia Organa when questioning her actions against the stormtroopers in the detention block.
Its most notable first use, however, arrived inThe Empire Strikes Back. Rather than functioning as a mere expletive,Han refers to hell as a location by telling deck officer Tigran Jamiro that he would “see [him] in hell"before venturing out into the frigid nighttime on Hoth to find and rescue Luke. It was this instance that truly began to change how hell is perceived inStar Wars, and the franchise responded with its very own creative version of it.

“Chaos” Is The Canon Version Of Hell
It Has a More Common Name in the Galaxy
TheStar Warsgalaxy has come to know hell as “Chaos,” in addition to “the Void,” with the former borrowing from Greek mythology. First mentioned inStar WarsLegends,“Chaos” was used by Darth Vader and has since become the formal name for this place in canon, with “hell” evidently functioning as its slang or umbrella term. Naboo even shaped Theed’s power generator after their own legend of “Chaos,” with its six laser gates taking inspiration from the six impenetrable gates they believed “Chaos” to have.
