Summary
Green LanternandBatmanhave rarely seen eye to eye because of their differing opinions on how to fight crime. That Hal Jordan once tried to destroy the universe certainly isn’t a point in his favor. But now that Green Lantern is dealing Batman the ultimate insult, these two may never get along.
AsAbsolute Powerrages on — DC’s major 2024 event — and the superhero community is nearly destroyed by Amanda Waller, the remaining heroes have to use whatever tools they can just to survive after their powers are stripped away. As Hal Jordan’s ring is running low on power and the only place to recharge is across the continent, he’ll need to use an iconic Batman vehicle to get there, as shown ina cheeky variant cover by Crystal Kung forGreen Lantern#15, anAbsolute Powertie-in.

Variant Covers:
Chris Samnee, Simone Di Meo, Nicola Scott, José Luis García-López and Joe Prado.
Hal has a problem…He needs to charge his ring, but the entrance to the Power Battery is a continent away. Plus, the skies over Earth are patrolled by Amanda Waller’s modified Amazos, which leaves Hal with one choice…to ride into the Danger Zone! Don’t worry, he totally got permission to use the Batplane for this missionwink. Plus, John Stewart’s tale from Green Lantern: War Journal spills out into the battlefield of a new struggle brewing on the horizon…

With no other way to cross the continent with the speed he needs, Hal will somehow get his hands on the iconicBatwing that Batman has used for decades. Typically, the only person allowed to fly the Batwing is Batman, with very few exceptions, and considering Hal can be seen on the cover spraying a graffiti version of the Green Lantern symbol on the Batwing, it’s unlikely he got permission.

Batman kind of hates Green Lanternfor a variety of reasons. It’s no secret that Batman is a heavily paranoid man, and nothing is worse than when Batman’s paranoia ends up being justified. When Hal Jordan became the villain Parallax and tried to destroy the universe, Batman never really forgave him. Not to mention thatthe two heroes' abilities and skills are complete opposites.Hal Jordan’s ring allows him to obliterate shadows and is a literal shining beacon of hope, whereas Batman prefers to stick to the shadows. With Hal stealing the Batwing, it’s likely Batman’s feelings aren’t going to soften anytime soon.
Batman is busy having his ownAbsolute Poweradventures, which begin in the tie-in story fromBatman#150 by Chip Zdarsky, Mike Hawthorne, Adriano Di Benedetto, Romulo Fajardo Jr., and Clayton Cowles.

Of all the heroes to take the Batwing for a joyride, it makes the most sense that it’d be Hal Jordan. Before Hal was Green Lantern, he was a talented aircraft pilot and served in the Air Force. While there’s no doubt Batman is likely a skilled pilot, the comics have never really dived into how Batman learned his piloting skills. It’s just assumed he did while he traveled the world.Hal Jordan, on the other hand, is a professionally trained military pilot, which means fans will likely see what the Batwing is truly capable of under his command.

Absolute Powerseems like a completely hopeless situation for DC’s heroes. Not only has Amanda Waller stolen all the heroes' powers, but it’s been stated that their powers are gone for good with no hope of them coming back. While that certainly seems like a grim scenario, having Hal Jordan, DC’s best pilot, behind the wheel ofBatman’smost powerful vehicle might just be what turns the tide. While Waller’s Amazos watch over the planet for superheroes, it’s hard to imagine anyone will be able to stop the Batwing as piloted byGreen Lantern.
Green Lantern#15is available September 11th, 2024 from DC Comics!
