Summary
Dave Bautista wants to join James Gunn’sDC Universe, and he has a major dream role in mind for the upcoming franchise. Following the conclusion ofthe DCEU movie timeline, a new DC Universe is on its way, with DC Studios co-CEOs Gunn and Peter Safran in charge. While Gunn is tapping new blood for the DC Universe, he is also bringing over various actors he worked with during his time at Marvel Studios in theGuardians of the Galaxytrilogy.
Screen Rantrecently interviewed Bautista for his new film,My Spy: The Eternal City, and opened up more about wanting to take part inGunn’s DC Universe. While having previously been interested in playing the Batman villain, Bane, the former MCU star has a different foe in mind, sharing the following:

Dave Bautista:For forever, it was Bane. When I was younger, I wanted to play Bane; it was like a dream role for me. And I got to a point in my career where I just felt like I was just too old to play Bane. I think the physicality of it, at this point in my career and my life, I just wouldn’t be able to do the character justice.
And then I saw somewhere online that someone posted something of me playing Lex Luthor; an older Lex Luthor. I kind of became obsessed with that idea. Obviously, they moved on from that idea, so at this point, I’m struggling to find my place in the DC universe. But I’d really be up for anything.

DCU Chapter One Gods And Monsters: Every Movie & Show In The New DC Universe
James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe begins with six movies and six shows that open the DCU’s first chapter, “Gods and Monsters”.
Bautista Issues A Come And Get Me Plea To James Gunn’s DC Rebirth
Obviously, Nicholas Hoult is set to play Lex Luthor inGunn’sSupermanmovie, but there are a lot of other characters that Bautista could get cast as in various DC Studios movies and TV shows. In the same interview with Bautista, who played Drax the Destroyer in all of Gunn’sGuardians of the Galaxymovies, the actor spoke in depth about his passion for working with the filmmaker again.Bautista not only"really just want to work with James again,“but he wants to land"a major role.”
Bautista says he"realized a lot of people that he’s worked with, they’ll come in, and they just want to be there and work with him and have fun.“While some will"come in and make cameos and do minor roles,“Bautista wants “to be there through the duration of the film and play a major role.” Essentially, Bautista is willing to take part in the DC Universe and be attached to numerous projects.
Given Bautista and Gunn’s working relationship, which has proven to be incredibly positive, it would be a shock if that reunion doesn’t happen in the next few years. Even though they should definitely take the proper time to find the right role for him, the DC Universe would benefit from having a talented actor like Bautista in the franchise. Hopefully, there will come a time soon when Bautista finally gets cast in theDC Universe.
My Spy: The Eternal Cityopens in theaters on July 18.
DC Universe
The DC Universe is one of the biggest comic book franchises and often competes with Marvel. DC Comics started as National Allied Publications, founded by Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson in 1935. Since then, the franchise has exploded with thousands of comic books, movies, TV shows, and video games. 2013 marked the beginning of the most recent iteration of the superheroes, with Zack Snyder introducing Henry Cavill as Superman. After several movies with mixed reviews, DC underwent a soft reboot under the helm of James Gunn and Peter Safran.
