As Apple Launches the iPhone 14, Google Reminds Everyone the Pixel 7 Is Coming Soon

Not wishing to allow Apple to hog all the limelight with the launch of the iPhone 14 and other devices, Google has reminded everyone that it’s got its own products on the way.The company has announced that its fall hardware event will take place on October 6th—giving us a full month’s notice—and has also shown us a brief glimpse of its first smartwatch, the Pixel Watch.

Pixel 7 Is Incoming

Google chose the day before Apple’s event to announce the date of its own “Made By Google” launch. It’ll take place on Thursday, October 6th, at 10am ET. It will bring the official unveiling of the Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, and the Pixel Watch.

Given that launches are usually only announced one or two weeks in advance, putting out the date a day beforeApple’s “Far Out” eventwas presumably not a coincidence.

Neither was the confirmation that the Pixel phones will be powered by a brand-new chip, Tensor G2, the second generation of Google’s own in-house processor. TheiPhone 14 will use the same A15 chipas the iPhone 13.

The Pixel 6 was Google’s best-selling phone ever, and the company will be hoping that the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro can build on that success. The new processor and refreshed design already stand in contrast to the iPhone 14, which has recycled a lot of features from last year’s models in what looks like a very modest upgrade.

In addition, the event will bring the launch of Google’s first smartwatch, the Pixel Watch, which Google boss Sundar Pichai was spotted wearing at the recent Code Conference in California.

Powered by Wear OS, and built around things like Google Assistant and Fitbit for health and fitness tracking, the hotly-anticipated device is expected to set a new standard in Android smartwatches.

However, Google will be playing catch-up here. It’s unlikely that the Pixel Watch will come close to matching thehigh-end features in the new Apple Watch Ultra.

Made By Google Is on October 6th

The Made By Google event happens on October 6th, with the devices tipped by some to go on sale a week later. That will no doubt be confirmed nearer the time. As Google admitted when it first showed off the Pixel 7 design back in May, it’s hard to keep secrets in the smartphone world these days. Expect more details to be leaked before the official launch!
