Android Auto 7.5 hits the Play Store, but its upcoming dashboard UI is still missing
Your phone acts as your navigational companion on the road, whether you’re just using Google Maps with a retractable mount or a built-in dashboard display with Android Auto. Despite killing off its dedicated phone option last year, Auto has continued to grow with new features andplenty of great appsto improve your driving experience. Google has a new software version ready to go, but it seems frustratingly short on features so far.
As spotted byAuto Evolution, Android Auto 7.5 is now rolling out to users through a Play Store update. However, Google has yet to issue an official changelog, and as with the beta, it doesn’t seem like much has changed on a user-facing level. This update does lay the groundwork forAndroid Auto’s new USB cable checker, which first appeared in the Auto 7.5 beta a few weeks ago, but as with that initial patch, it’s not available to users just yet.

The bigger story here concerns “coolwalk,” the codename forGoogle’s upcoming Android Auto redesign. Despite having first appeared in the wild months ago, we have yet to see an official unveiling — or even an announcement — for these changes. “Coolwalk” promises to bring a ton of functionality to Auto users, including a new dashboard mode that hopes to match up well against Apple’s Carplay UI. Google has continued to introduce new features to Auto over the last couple of months, including a broader rollout for its new audio suggestions feature, but it’s still relying on the old layout. This late into the year, it seems like “coolwalk” might be a shoo-in for aGoogle I/Oannouncement.
Android Auto 7.5 is slowly making its way to drivers through the Play Store, but you don’t need to wait to install the app. Grab the APK fromAPK Mirrorto skip the line, or just wait — so far, it doesn’t seem like you’re missing out on much.
