A newAhsokatheory suggests theStar Warscanon already has the perfect replacement for a keyThrawn Trilogycharacter. Having made his return to the known galaxy at the end ofAhsoka, Grand Admiral Thrawn is certainly positioned fora canonical adaptation of Timothy Zahn’s novelHeir to the Empire. Keeping that in mind, the canon may have the perfect character to take the place of one of Thrawn’s key allies.

In Legends non-canonHeir to the Empire, Thrawn returns from the Unknown Regions to muster the forces of the fractured Empire against the New Republic. As such, the Grand Admiral’s canon return from another galaxy at the end ofAhsokahas put him in a very similar position, and theImperial Remnant’s Shadow Councilfully expects him to take command of their military to restore the Empire’s glory. Keeping that in mind,a new theory claimsStar Warsintroduced a replacement forHeir to the Empire’sJoruus C’baoth five years ago (an ally of Thrawn’s).

Joruus C’baoth Is The Missing Piece For A Canon Thrawn Trilogy

A Dark Jedi Who Worked With The Grand Admiral

There’s already been a fair amount of set-up in recentStar Warsfor a potentialHeir to the Empireadaption, a major Legends story that’s most likely the premise for Dave Filoni’s untitled New Republic movie. This includes Thrawn’s return to the galaxy post-Return of the Jedi,Palpatine’s cloning experiments on Mount Tantiss, the Imperial Remnant and its various warlords, Captain Pellaeon, and more elements that were originally found for Zahn’sHeir to the Empirebefore they were recently reintegrated into the canonStar Warstimeline. To that end, Joruus C’baoth stands as one of the last major pieces for a canonical adaptation.

In non-caon Legends, Joruus C’baoth was a clone of the Republic Era’s Jedi Master Jorus C’baoth, a creation of Palpatine’s during his attempts to create Force-sensitive clones. However, C’baoth’s clone goes insane, becoming a Dark Jedi who temporarily joins forces with Thrawn and provides access to Palpatine’s secret cloning facilities on Tantiss. This alliance occurred after the Grand Admiral promised C’baoth Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, and Leia’s unborn twins to train as his apprentices (which canon could substitute with Ben Solo).

Star Wars Theory: Fallen Order’s Taron Malicos Could Be A Prime Canon Replacement

There’s Already A Dark Jedi on Dathomir

At the end ofAhsoka, Grand Admiral Thrawn and his new Nightsister allies are seen making their way to Dathomir. This just so happens to be the same planet rich in the dark side whereJedi survivor Cal Kestis fought the similarly insane Dark Jedi Taron Malicosyears earlier during the Empire’s reign (seen in EA’sJedi: Fallen Order). Although Malicos was buried alive by the former Nightsister Merrin, there are certainly dark siders in the canon who’ve survived far worse. To that end, perhaps Thrawn’s work on Dathomir could include the discovery of Malicos, effectively making him a replacement for C’baoth in the canon.

InFallen Order, Malicos desperately wanted to make Cal his apprentice in the dark side. This is not unlike C’baoth’s desire to turn the Jedi of Legends' New Republic timeline into his own apprentices. Likewise, Thrawn’s alliance with the Nightsisters does show his interest in those who can rival the Jedi in their power through the Force. As such, perhaps Malicos could provide value to Thrawn (despite not having any known connection to cloning or Tantiss like Joruus).

Ahsoka Already Has Other Connections To Fallen Order

Dathomir, Nightsisters, and Kujet

It’s also worth noting that greater connections betweenAhsokaandFallen Orderaren’t as far-fetched as they may seem on the surface. After all, runes and murals found on both Arcana and Peridea reference the Zeffo inAhsoka, an ancient Force-sensitive race first introduced inFallen Order. Likewise, runic translations specifically make mention of the sage Kujet, the Zeffo who had a temple of Dathomir. Keeping that in mind, it does lend some credence to the idea that Taron Malicos could become a canon replacement for Joruus in theStar Warscanon.
