Despite the growing number of AI chatbot voice modes, it’s hard to ignore Gemini Live. Gemini is more widely available than some of its AI chatbot competitors, and speaking is also significantly easier. These factors, plus others, lead to better research and results.
1I Can Speak More Naturally With Gemini Live
From personal experience, Gemini Live is easier to converse with than ChatGPT. With the latter, I always felt like I had to “polish” my speaking, which made me second-guess everything I said. This, combined with not conveying the information I wanted to, led to worse research and time-consuming correction processes.
On the other hand, I instantly found Gemini Live much easier to speak to. The chatbot felt more like a person, and our conversation flowed more naturally. While you could still tell you were speaking to an AI chatbot, it was much less awkward than with similar tools I’ve used elsewhere. I’m much more likely totalk with Gemini Livefor multiple purposes, such as learning languages and planning trips.
2The Voices Are Better in Gemini Live
Besides having better conversations, Gemini Live also has better voices. You have ten options; Orion is an ideal starting point, but Eclipse and Nova are some of my other favorites.
Gemini Live gives you a mixture of male and female voices, and you can pick between moods like bright, energetic, and calm. I suggest choosing one based on your current mood, your general personality, and the topic you’ll discuss. For example, if I’m talking about something I’m passionate about, I’ll pickEnergetic. However, I often opt forCalmif I’m feeling relaxed or speaking about something more monotonous.
Another brief observation is that the voices in Gemini Live follow similar rhythms to a human voice, making them more engaging.
3I Get the Answers I’m Looking For
I’ve found that Gemini Live gives me more accurate responses than many other AI voice modes, which makes research much easier. The app also makes fewer errors in my queries, allowing me to go deeper into my research topics. In my opinion, these make Gemini Live one of theactually useful smartphone features.
When I speak to Gemini Live, the app also quickly covers everything I asked. Doing this gives me more context into the answer I’m about to receive. More importantly, I can course-correct and refine my questions if needed.
4Gemini’s Transcription Layout Is Better Than Other Apps
Transcripts are important for revisiting information later, and Gemini Live excels in this area. The layout is very easy to read, with clear spots showing where I spoke and situations in which the chatbot did the same. I also like how you can replay Gemini Live’s voice for specific passages, making the information easier to share with others if you’re in person.
For other sharing options, you can also tap on the dedicated share icon to send via AirDrop, WhatsApp, or other apps and forms of communication. Moreover, you can search on Google for related topics/queries and additional context. Like ChatGPT and other AI chatbots, you can access your old conversations via the sidebar.
5I Can Access Gemini Live Without Needing a VPN
I’ve used Meta AI multiple times, but since it’s not available where I live, I normally use a VPN. However, I have recently encountered issues where I can no longer access the tool whileusing a VPN. In contrast, I don’t need additional networks to access Gemini Live.
If you’re based in the US, this might not be a deal-breaker for you, but not having access to your preferred AI chatbot could become problematic when you travel. Since Gemini Live is available in most places I visit, it makes sense to use this above some of its alternatives.
While other AI voice modes have their merits, Gemini Live is still my favorite, and I don’t think my opinion will change anytime soon. With its great selection of voices and natural conversation capabilities, this voice mode tool is a fantastic research companion. Thanks to it being deeply ingrained with Google, you can also find related online searches with minimal effort.
