Most people dismiss the Edge panel on Samsung phones as a mere gimmick, but I’ve found it to be genuinely useful. With a simple swipe, it gives me quick access to apps, websites, and plenty of useful features.
5Instantly Open Favorite Apps
Whileadding app shortcuts to the home screenis convenient, there are only so many I can add without cluttering it. Plus, I still need to go to the home screen to access them.
That’s why I like to add some of my favorite apps to the Edge panel. This way, I can access them from almost any screen with just a swipe, whether I’m in another app or browsing the Settings menu.

I also like to add App Pairs to the Edge panel, which lets me open two apps simultaneously in split-screen mode. For example, I have an App Pair for YouTube and Chrome, which is perfect for watching a video while browsing the web.
4Perform Quick Actions Like Speed Dial and Adding Notes
The Edge panel is also great for quick access to shortcuts, such as adding calendar events, starting a timer, or creating voice recordings. This allows me to streamline everyday tasks without switching between multiple apps.
I’ve set up shortcuts for adding quick notes to the Samsung Notes app. No matter which app I’m using, I can swipe open the Edge panel and tap the “Type note” shortcut to jump straight into Samsung Notes and start writing.

However, my favorite use of the Edge panel is speed dialing my important contacts. Instead of opening the Phone app, I simply swipe open the Edge panel and tap a contact’s name to call them instantly.
3Smart Select for Easy Screenshots
WhileSamsung phones offer multiple ways to take screenshots, sometimes I only need to capture and share a specific part of the screen. With the standard method, I have to take a full screenshot, open it in the Gallery app, and then crop it manually.
To avoid this, Iuse Smart Select in the Edge panel. It lets me instantly capture a specific portion of the screen without any extra editing. Plus, I can paste those screenshots directly from the clipboard in the Edge panel.

Another great feature of Smart Select is its GIF recorder. It’s a handy alternative to the full-screen recorder when I need to capture short clips and quickly share them.
2Quick Access to Favorite Websites
One of my favorite ways to use the Edge panel on my Samsung phone is to quickly access my most-visited websites. Since this feature isn’t available by default, I use the “Browser links for Edge screen” app to enable it.
It lets me add my favorite websites directly to the Edge panel. So, instead of digging through bookmarks in my browser, I can access my go-to sites instantly with a simple swipe.

Samsung has discontinued Edge panel downloads with One UI 7. However, if your phone is running One UI 6 or older, you can download them before updating and continue using them without any issues.

1Doodle and Sketch Anytime
I’m no artist, but I enjoy doodling and sketching in my free time. With the Edge panel, I can instantly access the Drawing Assist shortcut and turn my phone into a digital sketchpad.
What makes it even more exciting is Galaxy AI’s Sketch-to-Image feature. After doodling, I can transform my rough sketches into a stunning watercolor painting, an artistic illustration, a pencil sketch, pop art, or even a 3D cartoon. It’s fun to see Galaxy AI bring my simple sketches to life.
The Edge panel isn’t one of the most talked-about features on Samsung phones, but once you start using it, you’ll wonder how you ever managed without it. If you haven’t tried it yet, I hope the ideas above inspire you to give it a go!
